Carrie Hill is an award-winning Mohawk basket weaver from Akwesasne Mohawk Nation who uses traditional techniques passed down through generations to create her one of a kind pieces. She discovered her passion for weaving after her youngest daughter was born, and soon after started her company Chill Baskets. She carries on the Mohawk/Haudenosaunee traditional practice of her ancestors by weaving with Black ash and sweetgrass into contemporary “functional art,” as she playfully calls it. Carrie has taught many people the art of weaving from the very young to elderly and has presented her skill set throughout North America. Her work has been displayed globally and was hand-selected for the “Art in Embassies Program,” which had her pieces displayed in the U.S. Embassy in Swaziland, Africa.
