Guided Hike SW Coast Path Charlestown

Par, United Kingdom

Experience hosted by Lucy

4 hours
Includes transportation
Up to 5 people
Hosted in English

What you'll do

We will walk a beautiful 5-mile section of this, England's longest National Trail, gently rising over clifftops and passing rocky coves, sandy beaches and the exquisite historic harbour of Charlestown. There's a wealth of wildlife to spot, stunning views, industrial heritage and lots more. CEREAL BAR provided, included in experience.
We start with a short bus trip then begin our hike at Porthpean where there are soon expansive views over St Austell Bay to our north and east. Winding through sometimes wooded paths, we get our first sighting of Charlestown Harbour from above. The path clings closely to the edge of low cliffs and drops to cross a golf course, bringing us to Spit Point and the more modern harbour activity at Par, returning along the back of the sandy beach to our starting point in Par village.
Fairly easy walking means you arrive into Par, ready to enjoy an optional tea stop (not included in Experience price) and the rest of your day.
Other things to note
You will be walking in a fairly remote area on footpaths with a variety of terrain and weather. Please read the "what to bring" section carefully. Toilets only in Charlestown (1 hour out) and Par.

Where you'll be

We'll be following a linear route, beginning with a short bus ride from Par then hiking on the South West Coast Path from Porthpean for 5 miles. Our first village call is Charlestown, the filming location for BBCTV Poldark (on which I worked) and many other productions. Return to Par.

On both days I walked with Lucy, both occasions were well planned, and I learned a great deal historically and geographically about Cornwall - thanks to her knowledge and personal love of the area. Even on an overcast day, I enjoyed the coastal walk through historic Charlestown - with many an anecdote from Lucy. Excellent!

The guided walk with Lucy was awesome! Lucy has a love for Cornwall and she shared this with us as we walked along the Cornwall coast. We loved also hearing about English culture in general. We are also big Poldark fans and so it was very interesting to discuss the Poldark series with Lucy and hear all of her stories about being an extra. We could have walked alone along the Cornwall coast but it would not have been near as interesting without Lucy to share history and insight along the way.

This was not value for money: as I had a bus pass the host suggested I use this, saving her the fare which was included in the price; the experience said there would be snacks, but there was none; the experience said there would be an energy bar, this was offered at the end of the walk when it was not wanted.
