What you'll do

First, we share a light body warm-up, then play simple group games that help us feel creative and connected.

Then, you learn about red noses and how world cultures embrace clowns - to laugh with the ups and downs of life. You discover how your clown actually comes from your own personality, habits, body language, and style of relating - yes, you learn a lot about yourself!

We each don our red nose (provided) in a fun ritual.

We engage each other in classic comic exercises, then engage lucky others, too, that we pass by.

We end by reflecting on our favorite moments and what was new for each of us in playing spontaneously in a red nose.

Afterwards, keep your nose... and try it out in other places to spark connection and fun!

No performance experience needed, just an open spirit.

As a professional performer for over 20 years, clowning is central to my creative process as an artist. I share with you the soul-level relief to be free and playful again as an adult. We remember the simple joy of connecting in fun. Clown is a profound art form for me, as it allows us to laugh at both our light and dark sides, make peace with the sometimes wild journey of life, and be free.

Where you'll be

Summers are in outside in Central Park. We warm up on grass, under trees and skyline, discovering delights, sharing insights. On Park paths, we play together, with those eager to play with us, young and old.

Winters are indoors in a classic New York City actors' rehearsal studio. After playing together, we may go play with lucky people in our NYC streets, if we choose.

Spring and Fall may be in either locale, depending on the weather.

A glorious day for a glorious experience. Barbara really showed me what clowning is - which is not at all what I thought it was. It was a great learning experience on a very personal level. Donning our red noses and interacting with people in the park was divine and so enlightening. It was fascinating to see how people reacted. For anyone who wants to not only have fun but also learn a lot about themselves and what clowning really is Clown Curious is two hours VERY well spent...it was also enriching spending that time with Barbara.

It's really a fun experience for me to firstly pick Barbara’s course in my first time in Newyork. Weather is freezing, she changed to a indoor studio instead of Central Park. This time I’m the only participant here, but it helps me have more time ask questions and try different games here. She shared many interesting ideas, movements, and attitudes of clown. Inspired me lot! Put the red nose on, and make em laugh!

Barbara guides you to shift your idea of what creativity and playfulness means in adulthood. It’s not about embracing your inner child but rather reclaiming the openness and playfulness of youth. Funny and uplifting. Barbara is intuitive, kind and a great teacher. Try it! Thank me later.

Barbara explains things intelligently and makes the class fun. She has great facial expressions and by the end, you get how to clown!
