What you'll do

Indulge a little, why not? This food tour is the perfect way to have a walking brunch while learning the history of this off-the-beaten-path neighborhood.

HIGHLIGHTS:
+ learn and Taste the history of San Francisco sourdough
+ Taste and learn all about coffee
+ Try local artisan chocolate
+ Learn the story of the famous Painted Ladies
+ Learn the architecture of the neighborhood
+ Try a flight of very unique ice cream flavors
+ Visit an adorable french patisserie and snack on a macaron

We start at a quaint café along the main drag that coined the phrase ‘fancy toast.’ Here we enjoy a slice of cinnamon sourdough and a local coffee brew. Next, we head to a neighborhood farm-to-table market to learn and taste the story of chocolate. Then, we venture down the block to a ‘hip’ coffee shop started in San Francisco, for a tasty pour-over the locals love. Here we discuss the process of making coffee from sourcing to roasting and everything in between.

Fully caffeinated, we take a quick break from eating and drinking to look at some amazing Victorians and Edwardian houses including the Painted Ladies. After, we’ll head down the hill to Hayes Valley for ice cream and macaroons! While walking we’ll pass adorable boutique shops and leave you in the heart of Hayes valley.

I have always had a passion for cooking, trying new foods, and discovering new sites and tastes on a good food tour. That love inspired me to create my own food experience company called Stretchy Pants!

Things to note: This tour can be hosted by Kara or one of her other well-trained co-hosts. Please note all my food walks have a 2 person minimum but if I can accommodate a solo traveler I will do our best.

But that's not all... Stretchy Pants has 3 other walks on Airbnb, so keep an eye out! Chinatown Food Walk: Tea & Dim Sum, North Beach Food Walk: Beer & Pizza, Castro Food & Bar Crawl: Cocktails & Aphrodisiacs.

Where you'll be

We will explore 3 different areas on the food tour. NOPA, Alamo Square (where the Painted Ladies are located) and Hayes Valley. We cover about a mile on the tour.

Parking: Street parking in this area can be difficult. There are no parking lots close by. There is also a big hill between our start location and our finish location. We suggest taking public transportation or parking in Hayes Valley (where the tour ends).

Kara was really fun! My daughter and I both enjoyed meeting Kara and Jess. Both are super personable, and we had a great time connecting personally, as well as learning about the local area, architechture, and food. It was just the four of us, and we felt like we were walking around Hayes Valley with friends. Super fun!

The sweets were great, and the best part of the treats was Kara’s knowledge about ingredients and history. She picked great shops for us to taste and plots but my favorite was chocolate tasting in the park. Really interesting and fun! Thanks again Kara.

Even though I was the only person who had signed up on the day I went, it was never awkward or uncomfortable. The food was delicious and I learned a lot! Definitely come hungry! There are a lot of desserts to try!

Great tour by Kara. Walked through three distinct areas of SF while sampling sweet treats along the way. Kara does a great job with adding info and history to go along with the area. She is well versed in the food industry as she is a trained chef! Don’t miss this while visiting the area. It’s a nice change from the crowded touristy parts of the city. You feel like your a local!
