What you'll do

We will walk together through buildings and emblematic streets of the main blocks of Mexico City downtown, which until the end of the 19th century contained the same city. We will start from the heart of the great Tenochtitlán, the Aztec Templo Mayor, to the Palace of Fine Arts, covering almost five hundred years of history, following the historic advance that the city had to the west, covering just over 1.2 miles. The tour has to do with the different versions that can result in an event, legend or myth. It is common using this phrase in México: "Cada quien habla como le fue en la feria”. In other words, depending on the specific experience, bad or good, people have different opinions about the same fact. We will bring to life again the protagonists of history but also the vanquished and the anonymous witnesses through the chronicle, the literature, the books of foreign travelers and the newspaper reporters from other times.

Iván

I was born near the sister city of Tenochtitlan, Tlatelolco. I know Mexico City of all my life. I am still learning, reading and watching the city in movies. I am a historian by profession from the Autonomous Metropolitan University. I was a museum guide on world history. I have taught history of Mexico and worked in historical archives. I love transmitting my knowledge and experience, the curiosity of people, and to be in front of groups of all ages.

We will visit the Templo Mayor, the Old University, the Plaza de la Constitución, surrounding the Metropolitan Cathedral in its west wing, heading north to the Plaza de Santo Domingo, admiring the building of Monte de Piedad, former home of Hernán Cortés. We will return to the south and we will take some sections of the 5 de Mayo Avenue and the street of Palma, to finally enter the street of Madero towards Eje Central
