What you'll do

Welcome to one of Switzerland's best kept secrets: the sleepy, charming village of Seelisberg. Join us on an 8.2 km hike, taking us up the forest-clad mountain directly overlooking Seelisberg. This 'secret' trail, takes us mostly through a forested area. We first walk through a short section of our village, before veering off into the forest, just briefly. Our path leaves the forested area for a few hundred meters, taking us across rolling green hills, cow pastures (you'll often hear the cowbells in the distance) before re-entering the serenity of the forest. The path requires a total elevation gain of 600 metres (safe, clear trail, but it will take some moderate effort (it is a 600m elevation gain afterall). About 30-45 mins into the trail we reach the top, and from there, walk comfortably through the mostly flat/easy forest trail. As we begin our descent back into Seelisberg, we'll see some of the most incredible views of this region and the Alps around us.

We will walk at any pace that is comfortable for you. A comfortable, light pace, will seldom take more than 3 hrs to complete the hike. This includes a few short breaks if/when needed - and - considering some of the incredible views along the way, it's almost a given, you'll want to stop and take photos.

We have been traveling the world non-stop for nearly 20 years (8 of those years together). After visiting/living in nearly 50 countries, we finally found our home in the Swiss village of Seelisberg. Having once called home some of the world's largest cities, like Tokyo, Japan, to barely known villages like St. Jakob, Defereggental in Austria, when we first saw Seelisberg from a distance, while standing on the shores of Lake Lucerne at the Brunnen ferry station, we knew we had finally found our place. We're confident you'll see why, once you experience this slice of Swiss serenity.

Where you'll be

This trail will take us through a local forest, but with no shortage of spectacular, once-in-a-lifetime views along the way (especially over the last 30 mins or so of this secret trail). This is a very quiet, serene trail - probably the most peaceful, relaxing trail of all in the area as it's generally unknown to most tourists visiting our area.

Hiking with PJ was an absolutely amazing time. The ferry ride and train ride were beautiful. The views along the route as well as the changes in scenery make for a spectacular walk. PJ was punctual, talkative, polite, and interactive. we took 4 kids with us on the adventure and PJ was gentle with the interaction until they warmed up to him. He , also, took action shots along the way for us so we could focus on the different nature features. At the end of the trip, even my teenagers said that meeting and hiking with PJ was a great decision. That says a lot. At first-strangers, At the end-new friends. Highly recommend! 😊
