We weren’t able to summit Nevado de Toluca because the park was closed, so we did the Trekking the Iconic Volcanoes hike instead. It was a beautiful and enjoyable hike—not too challenging—and a great way to meet people from around the world. Bernardo was an excellent guide, easy to talk with, and made everyone feel comfortable. Snacks, water, and even a backpack were provided, and the lunch afterward was a nice touch. We wore hiking boots, but trail runners would have been perfectly fine for this hike.

The guide Alan was wonderful! Really, his experience, patience and warmth were the positive point of this experience. The journey we took was beautiful, no doubt. But, there was a lack of clarity on what the route would be like. The day before the departure (when I could no longer cancel) I was informed that the tour would not be on the usual route (going to the lagoons and then climbing to the peak), but would be done from the back of the volcano. I asked if I would see the lagoons on this alternative route (which was my goal) and they said yes, without further explanation and that was the big mistake. Alan, on the tour, explained that on this route you would only see the lagoons if you reached the Pico del Fraile and there was no fog, otherwise it was not possible. Although I still enjoyed the route and it was beautiful, I would have preferred to be informed in advance about the change of route, and to be able to decide if I wanted to go on this alternative route or cancel. It was a great investment, but it wasn't possible to do the tour I wanted

Incredible experience. Popocatepetl was erupting at the time so they took us to Nevado de Toluca. The guides were extremely friendly and aware of how the elevation would affect us so they made sure to take breaks and check in constantly, which I truly appreciated because at some points I was dying from the altitude and trying to catch my breath. The views from the hike were jaw dropping and the experience of being able climbing up to the peak was one of a kind. After the hike the entire group was wiped out and they took us to an unassuming local cabana taco spot along the road back that really hit the spot. 15/10 experience
