What you'll do
Our round trip starts at Grand Central Market, cruising through Little Tokyo to the heart of the Arts District Bloom's Square/Angel City Brewery; you'll hear about the AD's former history; sprouting up around the train depot & farm industry that flourished at the turn of the century. Next up The American Hotel, est. 1905 as a respite for African American's during segregation, and later, pioneering artists. On to the Container Yard/Barker Block neighborhood, full of changing, large format murals. Bring your cameras because you've never seen so much open air art. We roll past cafes, distilleries, and highlight new development & history in front of the Biscuit Co. Lofts. Along the way we'll point out the notable eateries popping up in this industrial neighborhood, and check out the big business players such as Hyperloop, Spotify, Warner Brothers Music and Soho House. Next up SCI-ARC school of architecture, then to our off-bike break at Hauser & Wirth Gallery complex. MOCA and cruising Little Tokyo's 1st St. Ramen houses returns us to GCM. This tour goes deeper into the AD than most people venture, and reveals street art in hidden alleys not many know about. Throughout the tour you'll learn about artists behind the murals, history, culinary scene, new development and keeping artists in the Arts District. The AD by bike is truly an urban adventure.

I've been a High School Teacher, traveller and Downtown L.A. resident for a few decades now. On midnight rambles by bike, I've covered every street and alley in DTLA. I want everyone to love cycling this city as I do, so I've chosen a route that's easy, a little off the beaten path and features the most interesting parts of the Arts District. Together with an artist friend of mine, Jenna, we run Handlebar Bike Tours, focusing on DTLA. Where you'll be
There are 10 narrated stops; we tell you the past present and future of this emerging neighborhood. We have 2 off-bike breaks where guests explore 10-15 minutes on their own at Hauser and Wirth fine art gallery and the Arts District Co-op, a collective of textiles made by local artists. The highlight of this tour is the Murals, from fine artist, to street artists and taggers. The AD is an open air gallery, you just have to know where to look!

Had an awesome time yesterday biking through LA! I felt very safe following Jenn, the bike itself was comfortable and sturdy, and I learned SO much more about the city through Jen’s excellent story telling & insight. Although I’ve visited LA many times I now have so much more context when it comes to the art and history! Definitely would be interested in going on another tour led by her!

The DTLA Art District raid with Jennifer was so AMAZING!!!
This ride was meant to be a Valentines gift for my wife and Jennifer made her magic to make the ride tour so special. The tour itself it is so interesting as well, many significant places in streets and alleys you wouldn’t pass by unless you are intimate with the Art District area. Art District is a must visit place to gain a better understanding of the LA soul, definitely rich in expressions entangled with the world and American history.
Piece of info, food is awesome in the Grand Central Market and in the Maccheroni Republic…. Highly recommended as an after ride treat!
Thank you Jennifer, Amazing tour!!!

An exceptional tour of DTLA Arts District; Jennifer’s knowledge of the history of LA extended beyond the art and architecture provided great context along the tour. Conscientious of city traffic, her communication was clear and kept everyone together and safe at all times. Frequent stops made for little exertion, so the many miles we covered hardly felt like any work at all. I’ve lived in DTLA for several years and I loved learning new things from her: “Vignes street, named for the French word for vines, is where the vineyards started in LA.”

This experience was great! Very unique way to experience the city and learn about it's history and culture. Really enjoyed all the context for the various works and it felt like the perfect amount of time and pacing. She gave us some great recommendations in the area to eat at and explore after. I am not used to cycling, especially not in traffic, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be! Do it!

I wanted to do something special for my birthday- and choose the DTLA bike tour. It’s always fun to bike around town and see things you’d never see in a car. Jennifer was so knowledgeable about the history of the arts District- the murals and overall culture. My husband and I have taken bike tours in Amsterdam and Paris — this one ranked with those!
