What you'll do

My guests meet me at the Snow Forest parking area and hike up into the beautiful Snow Forest. Snow Forest is the site of an old ski resort and the property has been restored back to its initial mountain wilderness glory. Snow Forest is just the name of this area of Big Bear Lake. There is not actually snow year-round, just to clarify. Snow Forest is one of the most beautiful areas in Big Bear Lake and it's an area that only locals know about. This particular trail is an advanced to moderate hike, it's all uphill in the beginning. If you are interested in doing an easier hike before the sunset please feel free to enquire about that. In the spring, besides offering spectacular views, the Snow Forest hike also has vast meadows of wildflowers and seeing deer, bobcats or coyotes is not unheard of. Wildlife is all over this area of the forest.
Other things to note
This is a really fantastic sunset hike. The booking time I put down starts in the evening but if you wish to do this hike any other time of day, that can easily be arranged.

I've hiked nearly all the trails in the Big Bear Valley in the last 20 years. I know almost every trail on this mountain between Crestline and Big Bear Lake and I love to share my favorite hikes with travelers adventuring through our local wilderness. I'm well versed on local flora and fauna and love to share my knowledge with visitors to our local mountains. I also write my own column in our local newspaper about hiking in the San Bernardino National Forest, based on my very popular blog, Hungrymountaineer.com.
I'm a world traveler and long-distance hiker myself and love to help other hikers do some of the best hikes that Big Bear has to offer. We may not have Mt Whitney in our backyard, but this high altitude hike will get your heart pumping as you scramble up some of the most breathtaking trails Big Bear has to offer!

Where you'll be

We will start the hike at the base of Snow Forest & follow the dirt road to get your first epic lake view. The trail is all uphill and steep. We continue our locals-only hike up the old ski slopes to enjoy the views.

The views were breathtaking but the hike isn’t a simple walk in the park. Definitely worth it though. Amber made the experience much more enjoyable. She told us about the history and some fun facts about Big Bear. She made us feel comfortable letting us know we could take breaks anytime which we did. Her dog was very energetic and friendly. We enjoyed their company. Definitely would recommend her as a guide on this hike.

We had such a wonderful experience snowshoeing for the first time with Amber. She is very knowledgeable and we were so grateful to have her guide us. The hike was scenic and rewarding and we loved the added touch of coffee at the top of the mountain. We will definitely book another trip with Amber when we return to Big Bear next.

Amber was so amazing. She helped me organize a special hike so that I could propose to my girlfriend with a lake view in the background. She also knew the area very well and gave suggestions on how to make our experience better during our time in Big Bear. She has so many different experience options so definitely reach out to her if you like anything active.
