What you'll do

We will meet at the Snow Forest parking area and hike up into the Snow Forest, making it back down to Pine Knot Marina in time to catch the sunset from our boat, docked in the marina! Snow Forest is the site of an old ski resort and the property has been restored back to its initial mountain wilderness glory. Snow Forest is just the name of this area of Big Bear Lake. There is not actually snow year-round, just to clarify. Snow Forest is one of the most beautiful areas in Big Bear Lake and it's an area that only locals know about. This particular trail is an advanced to moderate hike, it's all uphill in the beginning. If you are interested in doing an easier hike before the sunset and champagne on the boat, please feel free to enquire about that. In the spring, besides offering spectacular views, the Snow Forest hike also has vast meadows of wildflowers and seeing deer, bobcats or coyotes is not unheard of. Wildlife is all over this area of the forest.
At the end of the hike, we will walk back down to our separate vehicles, and drive separately to the marina (A two-minute drive away) There I will provide a bottle of champagne for your group (I provide one bottle of champagne for every two guests) and you and your guests can sit on our boat, docked in the marina and watch the sunset.

I've hiked nearly all the trails in the Big Bear Valley in the last 20 years. I know almost every trail on this mountain between Crestline and Big Bear and love to share my favorite hikes with travelers adventuring through our local wilderness. I'm well versed on local flora and fauna and love to share my knowledge with visitors to our local mountains. I also write my own column in our local newspaper about hiking in the San Bernardino National Forest, based on my very popular blog, Hungrymountaineer.com.
I'm a world traveler and long distance hiker myself and love to help other hikers do some of the best hikes that Big Bear has to offer. We may not have Mt Whitney in our backyard, but this high altitude hike will get your heart pumping as you scramble up some of the most breathtaking trails Big Bear has to offer!

Where you'll be

We will start the hike at the base of Snow Forest & follow the dirt road to get your first epic lake view. The trail is all uphill and steep. We continue our locals-only hike up the old ski slopes to enjoy the views. After the hike, guests are invited back to my boat, docked in the harbour where I will provide a bottle of champagne. Guests can enjoy the champagne while watching the sunset from my boat.

Amber was so amazing. She helped me organize a special hike so that I could propose to my girlfriend with a lake view in the background. She also knew the area very well and gave suggestions on how to make our experience better during our time in Big Bear. She has so many different experience options so definitely reach out to her if you like anything active.

We had a great hike with Amber! She took us somewhere only the locals go and we didn’t see another person on the trail. She has the sweetest dog and didn’t mind us bringing ours, and the hike was the perfect length to see all the views and the forest as well. Above and beyond expectations! Would definitely recommend!

The hike was beautiful! Amber was great to chat with and the trail was a perfect level for novices ready to challenge themselves a little. The trail was a hidden gem that only some locals know about. Sitting in the small boat was a bit cold and cramped though for the number of people we were. I thought we would go out on the lake but we were docked with the boat still half covered. I thought that could have been improved, but still appreciated the experience of seeing the beautiful sun set on the lake at the end.

We had a lovely time discovering the hills of Big Bear. We stopped at some very nice vantage points and got some great photos to commemorate the hike. By the time we were done we we're ready for some champagne on the boat! I'd say that the hike is an intermediate level of difficulty.
