What you'll do

On this tour, we're going to go on an exciting adventure. First, I'll introduce you to the correct safety and paddling techniques to start a 35-minute kayak through lush mangroves. Then, we’ll leave the kayaks ashore to hike numerous trails, observing as much wildlife as possible; such as howler monkeys, exotic birds, parrots, herons, cranes, iguanas, squirrels and others. You will be able to see exotic plants, such as dragonfruit cactus, wild hibiscus, mushrooms and big trees such as the guardian of the forest (Pochote) and the Guanacaste tree (Costa Rica's national tree). We'll also visit and climb to the top of an archaeological site, built by the ancient indigenous people using rocks brought from nearby. There we'll be able to see a stunning bird view of the tree canopy. This is a great place to observe the wildlife from above before returning to the kayaks for a refreshing drink and paddling back to Tamarindo. During our adventure I will guide you, explaining the animal behaviors and plant life we see around and of course I'll answer all your questions so you can learn more about this beautiful place in Costa Rica and the environment that surrounds it.

I'm originally from Argentina but I left the country in 1972. I have a wealth of experience and knowledge of animals and plants, and of course, guided tours. I have been actively involved in the everyday operation of this tour conducting it personally every time, with the idea of educating people to protect and respect the wildlife and environment around us while enjoying the time spent.

Luis is a great and hilarious tour guide, our group really enjoyed this experience thru the Costa Rican mangroves. We saw plenty of monkeys, birds, and even crocodiles! Luis's knowledge of the area is unbelievable - you can feel his passion for the area and it really comes thru during the tour. Highly recommended - bring plenty of bug spray because the mosquitoes can be relentless!

Luis was a wonderful host on our boat tour — knowledgeable, hilarious, and showed us parts of the preserved areas we wouldn’t have experienced without him! We learned about the trees, plants, and fruits and saw howler monkeys, crabs, and loads of birds. Highly highly recommend!

Luis is very knowledgeable! We didn’t get the kayak tour but instead, rode a boat through the mangrove forest. In hindsight, if was a blessing, as we traveled quite far upstream. Luis took care to explain a lot of natural phenomena and we saw some howler monkeys and iguanas. His personality is quite unique, and worth anyone’s time to meet him!

The tour was great and totally worth it. Although we couldn’t Kajak and Luis sent a guide to substitute for him, it was a great experience. I feel like on the boat you have even more chances to see animals. We saw a lot of animals including monkeys, birds, spider crabs and 3 crocodiles. Totally recommended as you can’t access the mangrove forest otherwise.

Luis was wonderful and very knowledgeable. He was very personable. We did not get to kayak but took a boat through the estuary. It was still a great tour. Luis did a wonderful job of combining local ecology and history. We saw quite a few howler monkeys and lots of different birds, crabs and other local wildlife as well as learning about the history in the area. We would definitely use Luis again.

Good experience if you enjoy nature and learning about the local plants and animals. We weren’t able to kayak, which was a little bit of a bummer (had two boys with us that were looking forward to it), but we took a boat that served the purpose and may have made it easier to hear information Luis shared. We saw and learned about monkeys, crabs, birds, bats, insects, as well as the plants. Luis was very knowledgeable and we had a great time on the water and land. Would definitely recommend. 👍🏻
