What you'll do

Meet and greet at the Blair boat launch followed by a quick waiver signing (There are inherent risks to any water sport and a standard liability waiver must be signed before launch) Then we will pick the boats that best suits everyone, get our life jackets on and hit the water. I will now lead you on a tour of Upper Duck Island. The tour is approximately 8km and circumvents/travels through the middle of the island. Introductory level paddling training and boat handling instructions are provided to all guests. This is an activity that any beginner should be capable of, however guests should be prepared for a workout especially if you are not a regular kayaker.
Once underway I like to give my guests some space to enjoy the paddling and talk among yourselves. I typically drop back or push ahead to get some quality candid photos of your adventure while directing the route. I am of coarse always available for questions and will be pointing out wildlife and tour highlights along the way.
When the tour is done I hope that you will have had fun and a good workout. You should have picked up some basic paddling skills and experienced the fun of a quality kayak. Finally I hope to share a sense of my own appreciation for all the natural beauty that can be found in your own backyard (whether that is Ottawa or anywhere else).

Born and raised in Ottawa I have been kayaking since my early teens. In the last five years I have gotten more serious about the sport. I have taken my boat out all across Canada and this summer I completed a five day, Ottawa to Montreal Kayak tour down the Ottawa river. My passion for the sport has resulted in my owning and having access too a number of quality kayaks. As a result I have decided to start offering private tours to people looking to get out on the water and have an experience. With a professional background in customer service, media production and community center teaching, I offer you an enjoyable adventurous learning experience while also providing great photos of it. Finally I hope to leave you having learnt somethings about kayaking and hidden gems to be found right here in the city.

Where you'll be

The Blair boat launch is a popular free launch on the Ottawa river and Ottawa river recreational trail. The launch was recently improved by the city and the parking is free. A few hundred meters off shore from the launch is Upper Duck Island. A long island with a hollow center. Upper Duck is a popular choice for birds and other wildlife that call the island home during the spring and summer.
