What you'll do

I'm not going to show you the forest; I'm going to help you connect with it in one of the most beautiful mountain regions of LA. We'll slow down, awaken our senses, ditch our phones, and restore our relationships with ourselves and the land. We'll do a forest therapy walk in the style of Shinrin Yoku, share our stories, and end with a tea ceremony featuring tea from foraged plants and an assortment of tasty treats. When we depart, we'll have a new appreciation for a less visited part of LA, and a practice we can readily apply in our daily lives. Come home to the forest.
Other things to note
Wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothing. Please bring water and arrange for your own transportation to the trailhead.

I'm the founder of Shinrin Yoku LA and the Director of Training with the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy. My work as a forest therapy guide has been featured in Women's Health, Washington Post, USA Today, Good Morning America, WebMD, ATTN, and more. Most of my time is spent training Forest Therapy guides internationally, but when I am home, I am deeply honored to take new friends into the forests of Southern California.

Where you'll be

We'll explore the Switzer Falls trail in the canyons of the San Gabriel Mountains. Nestled at about 3,000 feet, it's a beautiful, serene forest with a gentle river that runs through in the winter. The drive into the mountains alone is sublime. This is a side of LA few visitors ever see.

Ben is a gifted guide who thoughtfully offers a unique and memorable experience. Within the forest, he is careful with his invitations and creates an emotionally and physically safe environment within which personal insights can be found. His appreciation for and oneness with the natural world is palpable. Ben is both a teacher and a student of the world and the gifts he offers through this experience are life-shifting.

An incredible way to spend a Sunday morning remembering our inherent sense of belonging in the natural world. An invitation to slow down so that you can show up more fully and embrace what it is to feel fully alive.

Ben! This was a really incredible experience you put together for our group. I truly left with a changed perspective when you dropped the invitation to hear other humans as animals in their environment. That’s one I can take outside the forest. From the flute to the coyote calls to kindly letting me know it was ok to pee anywhere, your heartwarming tone and vibing with our group pulled it all together into a bonding experience under one magical canopy. The trees were the stars of course, and none of them disappointed. I even kissed the rock I sat on to meditate and we did have some trouble letting go of each other. Thank you for the light meal, tea, space and every single invitation. Honored I got to share this with my own blood, my sister Ruchi. ~Rasika

This Forest Bathing experience is fantastic! This is my second time on this journey and this time, I brought friends from out of town. They loved it - and we are still talking about it! The group was amazing overall, and Ben is a genuine person, who demonstrates his true passion for nature and connection.

This experience has been one of the best things I've done in years. It was different than I had expected and more than I could have imagined. Ben was a warm and a knowledgeable guide, filled with eco-knowledge, whom gently led our entire group to a calm, introspective, communal place, filled with the buzzing life force of nature all around us. It was cleansing, grounding and a wonderful reminder that we are all connected, we all belong together-in nature, because that is where we truly belong.

Ben is such an amazing guide, very down to earth, caring and friendly. The guide he provides is beautifully simple, and meaningful and if you allow yourself to be present and therefore guided then you will experience first hand the essence of nature and you'll discover something about yourself too. I highly recommend Forest therapy with Ben as a guide, it's such a bliss!! I'm super happy =)
