Where you'll be

We'll visit the medieval churches of S. Crisogono and S. Maria, famous for mosaics and a secret underground.
We will admire a surprising statue by Bernini in S. Francesco where sexuality is connected with religion.
And obviously some italian bites in a old bakery, a cosy bar and, well, at Venanzio

Great and unique tour - super interesting perspective on art within the church and a great counterpoint to the frenzy of a Vatican visit. Also the bites are realllly good!

We went on this tour on a saturday morning. Trastevere was still waking up. We had a lovely tour in the sun and in the crypts. A big surprise for us was that Christiaan was half Dutch! He adapted and the whole tour was done in Dutch! His knowledge and enthousiasm are superb. I can recommend this tour to every Dutchie or other nationality visiting the beautiful neighbourhood of Trastevere! The bites were nice and filling, we didn’t need a full lunch after!

Christiaan is a really knowledgeable guide. Friendly and easy to talk to, we would never have found the hidden treasures he knows. The small bites were great too. The supli are the best in Trastevere. Our family loved it and highly recommend him.

I highly recommend Christiaan's tour of Trastevere as he will take you off the beaten path. It's a good tour for a seasoned Roman visitor or your first time. I studied art history in Rome and Christiaan is not only an expert, but also passionate about introducing his tour groups to the art and culture of the neighborhood.

Mat was a great guide and we greatly appreciated the sharing of his knowledge - in the main, because of the art and how it reflected the theology and relative power of the Roman Catholic Church, as it adapted over more than a millennium. There are some truly stunning images and sculptures that he brought to life in a way far superior to a written guide. Some of them I will long remember - and will try to visit again. Mat also gave us an improved understanding of the history of Trastevere, which we enjoyed. The promotion for this walking tour is honest and informative. However, I think it worth adding a few suggestions: * be sure to wear good walking shoes as the uneven cobblestones are everywhere underfoot and tough on the ankles of old codgers with arthritic ankles, like me - but undoubtedly no issue for the fit, or even the mainstream mobile. (My companions, also in their late 60s/early 70s had no problems and Mat kindly adapted to my pace.) * the “tastes” were fine, but not the major attraction for us. My companions would have preferred a glass of wine and slice of red pizza, although I expect that many people would be happy with the savoury and sweet snacks provided to us, on the run. So recognise that the “tastes” are an aside to the main story of the art and the locale. *Make sure to take a bottle of water with you, particularly if it is hot. Finally, Chris was great at getting back to me prior to the tour, to answer all my queries patiently and promptly. It was pouring with rain prior to our tour and Chris messaged us to say that Mat was stuck in traffic and would be a few minutes late. As it happened, he was only three minutes late, but we appreciated the message, as it stopped us worrying. And we further appreciated that Mat more than compensated with extra time at the other end. I’m happy to give this experience a five star rating and believe it to have offered excellent value. I would recommend it to my best friend.
