What you'll do

Learn all about chocolate in the most intense & direct chocolate experience getting to know each step of the chocolate process all the way from tree to bar in this tour of a full-circle “chocolate farm”. An incredibly unique combination of cacao farm, cocoa processing operation and bean-to-bar chocolate maker. You'll hear & see first-hand everything it takes to produce chocolate and taste every part of the transformation process from fruit & farm to fine artisan chocolate.
First become familiar with the source of chocolate, the cacao tree. You’ll learn about how the fruit grows, and how it’s harvested eating some right from the tree. I’ll show you how the fruit is processed & the details of the transformation to produce a rich bean for chocolate makers, sampling the change for yourself.
We’ll be walking through a working cacao farm and along the edge of a wild cacao forest to ascend to a gorgeous ocean-view where our next-level chocolate tasting will begin. We'll tour through the ages & evolution of chocolate from ancient civilizations to modern day. I’ll welcome you to a serving of chocolate as the Aztecs/Mayans did it and then a serving of 1st “new world” chocolate. I’ll tell you about how this transformed into what we know today and explain to you what real, pure chocolate is as I serve to you a tasting plate of fine chocolates. You'll never look at chocolate the same again!

Where you'll be

A private organic cacao farm & learning centre, a 4ha/10acre space located between the towns of Cahuita and Puerto Viejo. Our property fronts Cahuita National Park with plenty of views of the park, ocean and the last living reef in the region. We are located in the middle of the jungle, surrounded by cacao, pure jungle and forest. We are in the absolute midst of nature enveloped in life with the many resident monkeys, sloths and other animals.

It was raining and it was the only day we could fit this tour into our schedule, so Ahki made adjustments and made it happen for us, even in the rain. It made the experience that much more unique. We didn't mind the rain and we were able to experience everything that Ahki showed us and let us try. The property is beautiful, the samples Ahki provided us were delicious, and Ahki is so knowledgeable. He told us about the history of cacao, process of making chocolate sustainably, and more. He also answered all the questions we had along the way. The tour also included appropriate stops throughout, including a nice cup of tea as we talked more about cacao. We bought some of the finished products and they are delicious! I am so glad we decided to continue with the tour, even in the rain.

Ahki’s tour of his sustainable farm will rewire your senses. We (my 11 and 18 year old girls) may never eat a commercial chocolate again :) We tasted our way through the tour. Ahki picked and allowed us to taste all the developmental stages of cocoa. Then we tasted various stages of chocolate creations. He explained and answered all our questions from history, politics/policies to medicinal. We ascended to a breathtaking view of the farmland. As we descended the mountain, Ahki picked fresh fruits and herbs for us to taste. He is knowledgeable, humble and personable. What a treat! If you love chocolate, this is a must do experience.
