Join us for a unique experience in getting to know much about Tibetan culture, history and traditional handmade handicraft techniques. Enjoy and support the incredible women of Chengdu!

We will meet in the Tibetan quarter area, where you will be welcomed in a Tibetan traditional way, with a khada. We will serve you a good cup of coffee, while having an introduction of Tibetan culture and history. Then we go to our training center where we start our handmade yakwool workshop! I will first show you the process of yak hair and Tibetan techniques such as stitching, weaving and knotting. After that, you can enjoy doing it by yourself. Learning by doing is the best way to enjoy art!

At the end of the workshop, we will move to our handicraft shop were you can see all our different, beautiful, unique and finished products. I will also share some anedecotes behind the product. You are welcome of making some personal purchases, just kindly note that it is not included in the workshop experience price.

I want my guests having a good time at Dancing Yak and leaving us with more authentic insides of the Tibetan culture and people lives. Im looking forward becoming your host.

Im from Switzerland and am living among Tibetans since over 13 years. I travel a lot through their regions, love their culture and through thousands of interactions, I learned many of their tradtional techniques, which disapear more and more. In our training center for Tibetan women, one can learn sewing, knotting, i.e. Everything is made of yak or sheep wool, felt or brocade fabric. It helps them regenerate an income for their futures and supports often their whole families. We can show you how the yak wool is processed, what techniques are unique for Tibetans and what products we are making.

This was a great experience. We booked quite last minute and Katja opened up a later slot just for us so we could still make it. We just came back from 8 days in Tibet and this was a great way to understand some things a bit better after having seen them but also to hear everything from a different perspective. We also made our own key ring from yak wool which we could take home which was great. Katja does amazing work and she gives back a lot to those in need - this is a great way to learn more about Tibet, about Tibetan ways and about how to work with yak wool! Definitely recommend this!

This was a really fascinating experience. Katja knows a lot about Tibet and has been there many times. In the little sunlit rooftop studio one of the Tibetan women taught me how to make a small yak wool keychain.
