What you'll do

Japanese woodworking is known for its precision, delicacy, and beauty. My dream is to make Japanese woodworking more accessible to foreign people. I personally find great enjoyment working with wood, and I would love to share the experience, the knowledge, and the skills with the world.

In this experience, you will learn how to use Japanese woodworking tools. I will explain the purpose of the tools and show you how to use them.

Then you will practice with your own hand tools—or simply borrow mine—to gain a basic understanding of how to set, sharpen, and maintain them.

We will discuss about Japanese architecture, design, and answer any questions you may have.

We have had a great time hosting this AirBnB experience for 2 years in Japan. Now I want to share this experience with you in France!

Other things to note:
If you have specific woodworking tools you want to know about, please tell me in advance.

Please arrange for your own transportation to and from the workshop.

I am a traditional Japanese carpenter with over 20 years of experience, and I run my own construction firm in Kyoto. I specialize in renovating traditional houses.

Since 2018, I have taught Japanese woodworking in our workshop in Japan, and I plan on bringing that to France in 2021.

My past work includes working for the Ise Grand Shrine, the spiritual home of the Shinto religion. I enjoy working with wood using traditional hand tools and Japanese joinery.
