After more than a decade working in banking and insurance one day I asked myself, what I genuinely like to do?
I resign, gave the car, the telephone, the computer, part of my life, and for a year I studied, and continue to study, the history of my country, of my city and the history that my people share with the peoples who visit us.
I developed the company brand, the web site and I started to do what I like!!!
Since then I have never worked, I present my city, its history and their secrets to friends that visit me from all over the world!

This was the only tour we took in the Algarve and we enjoyed having Ernesto guide us through the old town of Faro. Thank you Ernesto!

It was a windy evening and rains were predicted. When we arrived at the meeting point, Ernesto was very kind to check with us if we want to go ahead in the current weather or do it the next day. Anyway we continued on the same day and in spite of the November winds we totally enjoyed the tour. Of course he did most of talking, but every now and then we would break into a conversation and he would answer all our questions patiently. It was very interactive and thus all the more enjoyable. The path he takes you on with his talks is splendid - it makes you travel across centuries, under several empires and gives you as he says, a cultural insight of how Faro and Portugal came to become today what they are! And as far as the literal path is concerned - there are cobblestoned alleys which invite you to get lost in them, ancient establishments with rich history and much more which I recommend you to join this tour and find out.

Ernesto's tour was interesting and well planned but terribly culturally violent. We found it distressing and for my companion, who is African, it was deeply upsetting. Ernesto presents Portuguese history in triumphalist, white supremacist style, boasting proudly and casually about the innovations Portugal made in the slave trade and the occupied countries they swapped around as pawns. He has zero insight into the fact that this experience is acutely painful and traumatic to many peoples of the world. When we raised this question and asked him to be more sensitive, Ernesto grew immediately defensive and kept saying, But it's history! It actually happened! as though this puts such stories out of the reach of any fresh insight. Like many European nations, Portugal built its wealth on stolen lives and stolen resources. It's cruel to boast about that. And when an African man visiting Europe for the first time has the courage to politely state his differing viewpoint, and the whole tour group combines to shut him down and talk over him and tell him he is wrong - I would say that is colonialism in action. It's not OK to say that Columbus discovered America. America was already there and was peopled with intricate communities living their own lives. Ernesto seems a decent guy and is clearly passionate about Faro. I hope he takes the opportunity to deeply reflect and to enlarge his point of view so the tour will be more accurate and more enjoyable in future, including for people who are not white.

I thoroughly enjoyed this evening cultural and historical walk about the old town with Ernesto. He loves his country and his city of Faro and it shines through. I learned things I didn't know about Portugal and about the Algarve even though I'm of Portuguese heritage. There were only 3 of us in the group plus Ernesto so it was very comfortable. When I couldn't find the meeting point, Ernesto came and found me. I really appreciated that because I had been driving around in circles for a while as my GPS took me to different spots. I highly recommend Ernesto's tour.

We had a really enjoyable tour with Ernesto. I found out a lot more about Portugal and Portuguese contributions to the world as well as some interesting behind-the-scenes locations in the old town. Our time with Ernesto was ideal as an introduction to Faro’s history. I would recommend this experience.

You will see Faro in a new way, both in understanding the history and the actual structures/buildings themselves. Faro is not a city just to walk around in on your own if you want to understand it. You need a guide and Enersto is a good one.
