What you'll do

If you have ever been curious about where chocolate really comes from, or to know what makes a jungle a jungle, this unique guided tour through a truly sustainable cacao and chocolate operation, bio-dynamic farm, tropical jungle and cacao forest is your chance to find out up-close and personal!

First you’ll get to know nature’s source of chocolate, the cacao tree. You’ll learn about how and where cacao grows and the different ways that it is farmed as we walk to witness & talk about sustainable farming. You’ll see how it's commercially processed, from harvest to fermentation and beyond on its full path to the chocolate maker.

We’ll climb to beautiful ocean-view to gain an intimate appreciation for life & inter-connectedness of farm-jungle-forest. We’ll become even more connected to nature as we hike into jungle & true cacao forest to explore the myriad of life surrounding us.

You’ll learn more about the history of cacao in Costa Rica and of ancient civilizations, about different varieties of cacao & how they affect chocolate, and about the value of native cacao as we feel first-hand the incredible energy of this living space.

I'll show you what makes this one of the most sustainable crops on the planet & what this means - including organic, fair-trade & permaculture - ending with a walk down a fruit slope to try whatever is in season.

Change your view of chocolate forever!

Where you'll be

A private organic cacao farm & learning centre, a 4ha/10acre space located between the towns of Cahuita and Puerto Viejo. Our property fronts Cahuita National Park with plenty of views of the park, ocean and the last living reef in the region. We are located in the middle of the jungle, surrounded by cacao, pure jungle and forest. We are in the absolute midst of nature enveloped in life with the many resident monkeys, sloths and other animals.
