What you'll do

The day will start off arriving at the farm for 10am, there will be an introduction and tea/coffee to break the ice and everyone can introduce themselves.

The first part of the morning will be a short talk on the farm and what we are doing here, from being as self sufficient as we can through to the animals we keep, how we farm for nature and all about the bees we keep and honey we produce.

We will have a walk of the farm, seeing the veg garden, orchard and paddocks where the livestock are kept.

We are producing all our own food here in the farm from fruit & veg, to eggs, beef, pork and preserves and ferments.

There will be a tour of the honey house, see all the equipment from the beehive equipment right through to the processing room where the honey is taken from the frames and into the jars.

We will visit the hives and talk through the beekeeping year and all the works thats involved in keeping honeybees.

The workshop will finish with a questions and answer session where guests will get to try a range of different honeys that I produce here on the farm.

My name is Olly and I'm a beekeeper & smallholder in the Dublin Mountains. I have been keeping bees for 6 year and I now have bee hives all over South Dublin & North Wicklow, from here on the farm to the Roof of Teeling Whiskey Distillery, to Powerscourt Estate and Killruddery Estate in Wicklow. I produce award winning truly raw honey thats harvested from my bees into jars in as little steps as possible. My honey has won gold in both Blas na hEireann & the Great Taste UK. I want to give interested people an experience of beekeeping, a workshop on everything to do with bees, honey & beekeeping.

Where you'll be

The experience day is located on my farm in the Dublin mountains, just a 25 minute drive from the city centre or 5 minutes from Oldbawn. My small farm is 8.5 acres and is run as an organic smallholding where we produce all our own food from fruit & veg to eggs, beef and even milk when in season. Guests will get to meet all the other animals on the farm as well as the bees. The experience is a mix of indoors and outdoors
