What you'll do

Join us for Old Monterey’s original culinary walking adventure! We’re proud to be Monterey’s first and only walking food tour, and we’d love for you to experience it with us!

On this tour, we’ll take you through 5-6 different restaurants and food shops along the side streets of downtown Monterey. You’ll taste all the culture embedded here, from little bites, to coffee on draft, to Italian, Indian, and Greek food (just to name a few).

We’ll also familiarize you with some local history, go over some of California’s firsts in Monterey, and fill you in on some things the locals hardly even know!

You better come hungry when you join in on this tour, because you’ll quickly find there’s a lot more going on downtown than expected, so come on board and have the time of your life!

We can’t give away all of the secrets, but here’s a couple of things you can expect:

Eating food with a Big Little Lies connection.

Tasting food as you check out California’s first safe.

Enjoying beer and wine from local breweries and wineries.

And more!

Welcome to Monterey Bay Food Tours! My name is Casey. I am a lover of great food, wine, and culture and am the proud owner and founder of Monterey Bay Food Tours. I was born and raised in Georgia, but dreamed of moving to California since high school. When my husband was given the opportunity to move to Monterey for work in the summer of 2016, we jumped at the opportunity. I’d first visited the area 7 years prior to moving and immediately fell in love with the food and cultural diversity the California Central Coast has to offer. I finally feel that I am fulfilling my dream of working for myself and doing what I love. We have always enjoyed cooking for and trying new foods with friends and family, but now I am excited to share this passion with you.

Casey was great but there is definitely room for improvement. Only advice I would give is to be a little less soft spoken and make sure to talk/look at everyone when sharing history or talking. She was very sweet and kind and did everything she couldn't to make sure everyone was happy. She was great for a beginner. I went on a Napa foodie tour and we had the pleasure of having the owner in our group which made it that much more special. He chimed in & helped her since she was a beginner and made it feel that much more special since we had the knowledge from two people instead of one. Casey is also in her beginning stages and could have used the same kind of help from the manager that was also in our group. I know she wanted to just watch and let her do her thing but I think the help would have made it that much more special and feel more worth the money. I felt this was a bit pricey and was worth 75-80 dollars. Move the price up as you get more experienced.

We’ve been on several guided walking tours in the Europe and food tours in San Francisco, so we know this tour was top notch. Don’t let the price discourage you. After some history, we tasted Jams and almond butters and artichoke dip and others too numerous to mention to start at Joseph’s Boston store. We circled back for Italian lobster ravioli with bruschetta and good white wine off the beaten path at fisherman’s wharf at paluca trattoria. The big meal of the day: salad, butter chicken, nan, chicken and rice at Aabha Indian Grill was delicious. Melville Tavern served comfort food: meatloaf and mashed potatoes with a good beer. A small chocolate mousse at Alta bakery and some history and a tour and and sundae at Revival ice cream. We finished with cheeses, chocolates, white wine, red wine, guitar music and a sports bar feel at Puma Road. They have a seafood tour I’d like to try next. Our guide Felipe is the husband of the entrepreneur who started the old Monterrey food tour. He did a fantastic job and we got to know everyone on the tour all interesting people from around California, Canada, and East Coast.

This was a rare experience that exceeded expectations. The food stops were expertly thought out and were delicious. The walk through Monterrey included an entertaining tour through the city's rich history, hidden gardens and current points of interest. We saw places many local don't know exists and ate at amazing restaurants that would never have been our on radar. I will definitely be looking into similar food tours in every city I visit. It's a great way to learn about and experience and new place.

The food tour was one of the highlights of our visit to Monterey. The tour was thoughtfully planned with unique food options and provided us with a significant amount of historical information as well. Our guide had excellent rapport with the providers at each food location and with all of the tour guests. He was amp,e to provide information in Spanish for guests. The food, wines, and ice cream were interesting and very tasty!!! Our guide provided great tips about other establishments as we passed on the tour. Those vendors also expressed genuine pleasure when seeing Felipe. We highly recommend this tour!!!!
