What you'll do

Are you ready to start pollen in love with the sensational world of honey bees? Then hive been waiting for you! Join me as we take a bee-hind the scenes look at one of the thriving colonies at Sneaky Bee Backyard Honey!

We’ll begin this edu-taining, agri-tourism event with a brief introduction of what we’re all about at Sneaky Bee, and what you can expect to see inside the hives (spoiler alert: lots of bees.) Although the honeys typically prefer to mind their own beeswax, you’ll suit up in one of our ultra figure-enhancing, protective bee suits and we’ll do a gear & safety check.

Together, we’ll geek out as we get an up close and personal look at how honeybees team up to rear young, store pollen, turn nectar into honey, and tend to her majesty, the queen! Your hands-on involvement is highly encouraged and I’ll pass off frames of bees to the participation-inclined among us, while teaching you to spot pollen, nectar, and developing bees (with plenty of time along the way for photo ops!)

After desuiting, it's time to put your honey where your mouth is and transition to the ultimate sensory experience...the honey tasting flight! We will talk through around 9 different honeys, including our own wildflower honey harvested here at Sneaky Bee!

**Sunday tours are geared specially for families with children. If you are booking w/children and need another day, please reach out!**

I’m a veteran beekeeper of five years, and one half of the Sneaky Bee Backyard Honey team (the very enthusiastic half, probably.) Through the years, my husband and I have expanded our backyard apiary through lots of elbow grease, some hard lessons learned, and a few timely “here goes nothing!” experiments. Most of my time is spent as a homeschoolin’ mama to our three wild kiddos, and our family enjoys getting outside as often as possible. I’m looking forward to sharing my enthusiasm and passion for beekeeping with you!

The beekeeping experience was everything we imagined and more! Ellen was a super fun host and gave us a good mix of general conversation & bee facts. We will most likely return next year and visit again!

I felt safe and secured through Ellen's guidance and the bee suit! She was very respectable and took COVID precautions very seriously. Beyond that, Ellen's personality and puns made the experience extraordinary and fun!

This Beekeeping and Honey Tasting Experience was awesome! Ellen did a great job of teaching us about Honeybees! Fun facts! She did an excellent job of letting us see and experience the honeybees in their honey beehive boxes, hold the trays to see the honey bees close up. We could see the female worker bees, the drones, the larva AND we watched a worker bee birth and come out of the pupa. Fascinating! Ellen is upbeat, positive and beaming as she shares her family's beekeeping hobby. The honey tasting was an great experience also. I had no idea there were so many types of honey! We tasted 10 different honeys to determine the what we preferred. Loved that part of the experience too! If you are worried about the bees stinging you, don't be. She has bee suits that keep you safe. She makes sure everyone is clear of bees before you de-suit. It was not even a concern for us. Overall excellent experience and would recommend it for anyone!
