What you'll do

Don't you think that it would be wonderful to make sushi at home? In this course, you will learn how to make dashi or Japanese broth from the scratch. At the time Yumiko showes and explains all Japanese seasons and unique ingredients. Next you will make tamagoyaki or Japanese omelette. And then you make two different popular styles of sushi: nigirizushi and makizushi. You can learn some useful skills as well as sushi history. I bet you enjoy making sushi a lot! You can hold a sushi party at home after you go back home. ( We have vegetarian and vegan friendly menus as a kaiseki cuisine, too. We try to meet your needs as much as we can. Feel free to make your request. )
In the end of this course, you will have a bowl of matcha or powdered green tea with Japanese sweet sitting in a chair. If you have enough time, you can make a bowl of match by yourself :-)
Why don’t you try it?!
Other things to note
Note: If you are vegetarians or vegans I can change “Zen Vegetarian Cuisine” course. In that case, please ask me first. And if you are allergic to some foods or dogs, please let me know.

I was born and brought up in Kyoto city. My grandmother, Kaji was a wonderful cook and created beautiful Japanese food. Luckily she taught me how to cook and present traditional Japanese cooking. I have lived in and visited many countries and made wonderful friends there. I love sharing my passion for cooking and making it easy for you to enjoy Japanese cooking at home. I also love Japanese culture and I have licenses of tea ceremony and flower arrangement.

Where you'll be

I hold my cooking class at my private kitchen. it is only 5 minutes on foot from The Westin Miyako Hotel Kyoto. Around my house there are a lot of nice places: Heian shurine, Nanzenji temple, philosopher’s path, Ginkakuji ( Silver pavilion) and so on. After the cooking class, I recommend you to visit and enjoy such wonderful places.

Such a fun amazing experience. If you're a foodie, this is for you! We made so much food and waddled out of there haha the sashimi for the onigiri was divine! Thanks so much Yumi for teaching us. I'll make sure Duncan cooks all the things when we get back to Australia hehe :)

By far the best AirBnb experience we’ve had. Yumiko was amazing and so welcoming and friendly. Not only did I really enjoy getting to know Yumiko, but the class itself was spectacular. She explained all of the ingredients and the history of the dishes and we got to taste the ingredients before using them. She also did a wonderful job of accommodating me being vegetarian. It was such a fun and interesting class and all of the food was delicious! You won’t want to miss the experience!

This was a fabulous opportunity to experience a piece of Japanese culture. Yukimo provided a very clear recipe and directions in English to take home after. During the cooking lessons she made sure to explain the history of several of the foods while also giving us hands on opportunities to try each of the steps of the recipe. All the foods were fresh and of high quality. Our salmon nigiri was excellent. You could also tell that Yukimo cared to create a special experience for us, she gave us a traditional rice sweet at the end and included the opportunity to learn to make matcha in a more traditional tea ceremony way. Thank Yukimo for creating a wonderful memory!!

This was a great experience from start to finish. Yumiko was funny and kind and really made the day special for us. We had a delicious meal and the recipes were easy to follow. We’ve even started making sushi at home. 100% recommend.
