What you'll do

Where I come from, food is the expression of love. Growing up South Asian-American, my family expressed their love by making my favorite Bangladeshi sweets or with random surprises of cut fruit. I feel like I'm back at home when I eat in Jackson Heights, NYC's most culturally rich and diverse neighborhood.

I will bring you along with me to 4-6 different types of restaurants within five blocks of Jackson Heights, a neighborhood bustling with locals eating and selling food native to their homes. I will take you to try momos, a type of dumplings filled with spiced juicy beef located at the back of a cellphone store. We will also try some traditional South Asian desserts such as kulfi, a cardamom flavored milky frozen dessert found in ice cream carts. In between dumplings and sweets, we will try Bangladeshi street food, Nepali thali, Indian sweets, and more depending on how hungry you are. The tour is inclusive of ALL the food and can be tailored to meet your dietary restrictions!

My ask is simple - come hungry and open-minded. On my tours, you will not only meet others who love to eat, but have an opportunity to connect with individuals who crave to learn more about the origins of what they eat. I want my guests to leave with a greater appreciation for the South Asian diasporic community of New York.

Would recommend this to anyone that: - Enjoys Asian food (Bangladeshi, Nepali, Indian, Tibetan, Thai) - Wants to learn about and try new foods - Go a little off the beaten NYC path and explore the Jackson Heights, Queens neighborhood rich with culture, diversity, food - Overall enjoys trying different types of food with good company You can tell Ameera has a passion for food - she will take you to the best places in Queens and provide background and culture of the food as well! The food tour is also a bargain and doesn’t require a whole lot of walking, just a whole lot of eating :)

I loved Ameera’s tour so much. I’ve been to a few food tour and this is by far the BEST. We were able to try different delicious places from different countries. Ameera spent her time telling us about each food and how they relate to different cultures. The food was amazing, I enjoyed morog pulao (Bengali chicken and rice), it was so DELISH! She also took the time to show us different jewerly and clothing stores around the neighborhood. I highly encourage anyone visiting NY to join her tour if you’re looking to experience south asian food😋😋

I had the pleasure of going on Ameera's food tour this weekend it was such a great experience! I would definitely recommend joining this tour if you are visiting New York and want to try some local authentic food. Ameera brought us to many great places that we never would have discovered by ourselves. Furthermore, I felt it was great value for money as we got to try so many different types of food and drink that we would not have known to order. Along the way, she threw in some facts about the food's origin.
