What you'll do

We will be driving into the scenic hinterland of central Evia Island, through a number of picturesque mountain villages.

Following, we will go on a delightful trek through deep, ancient woods, and up to the island's breathtaking alpine landscapes.

We will see and learn about the island's rich and peculiar flora, and with a little bit of luck, we may spot endemic fauna, such as foxes, hares, badgers, hedgehogs, ferrets, weasels, eagles, hawks, as well as various species of small birds, reptiles, and amphibians.

We will marvel at some incredible views, spanning most of the island and large portions of the Greek mainland in the west and the vast Aegean Sea in the east, and we will take lots of stunning nature shots. Since I will be also carrying my camera, I may also take on the role of your personal photographer, besides your guide, making sure to provide you with plenty of nice pictures from our trip together.

Lastly, we will enjoy a lovely picnic brunch amid the serenity of the mountainous environment.

Additionally, to keep you aptly entertained throughout the trip, we may well discuss subjects I am especially knowledgeable and passionate about, such as Greek and world history, international adventurous traveling, and languages, among other intriguing topics.

The route's duration and strenuousness may be adjusted according to your own mood and fitness.

See you on Evia!

Hello! My name is Dimitrios, but people commonly know me simply as Dimi. Evia Island is where I've grown up, and its wild mountains have been my childhood playground. I have been an avid hiker and mountaineer since I was a kid, and during times I am situated at home, I am always very happy to show travelers these very mountains that originally made me fall in love with the sport of trekking, and I may boast to know like the palm of my hand. Most of the time, I am away, traveling around the globe, where, apart from discovering the world's cultures and interacting with their people, I often organize trekking expeditions throughout our planet's remaining wilderness. I have so far been in more than 80 countries and have learned to speak 7 languages. Apart from occasionally being a mountain guide, I am also an author, blogger, and musician.

Where you'll be

We will be in the middle of the second-largest Greek island's mountainous wilderness, deep in charming, virgin forests, and up in awe-inspiring alpine plateaus. You are quite guaranteed to find it hard to believe that such astounding and impressive natural beauty may be found a mere hour and a half's drive away from the bustling metropolis of Athens. Be sure that what you'll see is not a part of a typical traveler's itinerary of a trip to Athens.

I simply can’t recommend this experience more. I’ve had the best time since I came to Greece. This is the second Dimitrios AirBNB experience I booked, I had lots of good time in the first one (you can check out the review). In this one you will see places you don’t usually see, rarely known even for locals. Coming to Chalcis from Athens is very easy, you can take the bus or the train (from Larissa Station). Dimitrios can answer all your questions regarding this, don’t worry about getting there. I came using the train and after arriving to the station in Chalcis, Dimitrios and Sophie took me to hike a mountain with fantastic views and an ancient building on its summit. Extremely easy hike and extremely fantastic views. Then we went to stroll a remote village, very unique and picturesque with lovely locals. After that, we went to have our lunch near a creek. Great views and delicious food. Dimitrios is extremely knowledgeable, one of a kind expert. He have been to more than 80 countries. He knows many languages (he speaks English just like a native). He knows a lot of history (He kindly share his knowledge with me and Sophie). He and Sophie were very nice to me. Dimitrios offer me to stay the night in his place in Chalcis because enjoying the day so much, I wanted to see more of this area. They made me feel very much at home. The next day we went to see more places, and I enjoyed this day as much as the day before. It cost me a little extra but it was well worth it. We went to a remote town on the other side of the Island, then we went up a mountain and from there to a fantastic seclude beach. Dimitrios drives very safely and also stopped occasionally for pictures. I took so many pictures now I’ve got almost no storage left on my phone! After doing this tours and getting to know each other, I now consider Dimitrios and Sophie as friends. Check out their blogs and Dimitrios Youtube channel. Lots of good stuff to read there. Well, The only downside is that after doing this experience you will probably need to upgrade your phone cloud storage because you gonna take so many photos! Lol! Don’t think twice and book it, you won’t regret it.

Booking this experience was a very good decision. I found it an amazing opportunity to briefly escape the chaos of Athens on the last day before lockdown. Dimitrios provided excellent directions for reaching the tour’s starting point, where he promptly waited to pick me up even though I ran a little late. Even the drive through the island was a remarkable experience in its own right. The host listened closely to my particular requirements with regard to the length and toughness of the trek, and I couldn’t have imagined our route being more ideal. We got to witness some really stunning nature and landscapes I couldn’t have guessed existed in such a close distance from Athens. Unfortunately, the weather was foggy on the day of our trip, so that we didn’t get to see many distant views. However, the fog in itself gave the forest and the mountains a very mystical and captivating character, the sort of ambience that made me feel as if being in a fairytale. Just like it is customary in this country, Dimitrios prepared an enormous and delicious lunch for our our trip that could have fed an entire family. Sorry I couldn’t eat more lol. In conclusion, I can’t recommend this experience enough. You’re definitely up for a trip-highlight kind of treat joining this tour.
