What you'll do

We'll pick you up at your hotel and then our journey to the Irazú Volcano National Park will begin. On a picturesque road trip, you'll learn about the history of the Central Valley and the fatal eruptions which made this Volcano famous during the 1960s. Once at the Park you'll enjoy a lunar landscape which is perfect for taking pictures. We'll admire 3 different craters and then we'll walk through the unique ecosystem of Paramo, a tropical dwarf forest nestled in the highlands.

Afterward, we'll take the back road to Turrialba Volcano. Our first stop on this jumpy route will be "Central Town" located at the base of the volcano. Here we take a cup of coffee to warm up while we explore this eerie abandoned town, still filled with farmhouses and buildings. Next, we stop for lunch at a family-run grill house for a traditional Costa Rican meal. If you like cheese, let us know and we will take you to an artisan cheesemaker workshop on the way.

Finally, before returning to San José we'll stop by the charming town of Aquiares, where we can freshen up on a waterfall and learn why we call coffee the "grain of gold" and lastly, visit the Basilica (the most import church in the country, visited by more than 1 million pilgrims per year), perfect for architecture and history lovers.
Other things to note
Irazu Volcano could be cloudy, the earlier we get there, the higher chances of getting clear skies.

I think that since little I had this strange obsession with nature even though I grew on Downtown. Luckily I had the chance to study biology at the University of Costa Rica. On its campus, I found that the city/nature/humans, we can actually, coexist pretty well!

Soon I discovered that this point of view that I took for granted every day could be shared with travelers causing a positive impact for everyone involved, and that's how my friends and I founded OROPOPO EXPERIENCE, local and responsible nature experiences collective.

Let me and my friends guide you around Costa Rica, if you're looking for a rich experience, lots of learning about nature and history, and deep human connection, you'll find it with us.
