What you'll do
`Travel is fatal to prejudice' Mark Twain American writer This interactive history of travel experience takes you on a journey through the backstreets around Victoria. You will hear many fascinating stories that bring back to life the medieval pilgrims, notorious con artists, soldiers, women husband hunting, thrill seekers and royalty that once also walked these quirky backstreets. Queen Victoria the nineteenth century British Empress who ruled a quarter of the world is everywhere on this walk as one would expect of an area still named after her. She like everybody else we will discuss on this walk will help you understand why people leave the comfort of home to travel and what you share in common with them.
I am a qualified City of Westminster Tour Guide (Westminster is the main tourist area in central London ) and run two other popular Airbnb experiences Explore Back Streets with a Historian Airbnb.com/experiences/90528 and Discover Hidden Sites with a Historian Airbnb.com/experiences/156182. When I am not guiding, I teach History in a central London college spending most of my time teaching about the British royal families of 400 to 600 years ago, the Tudors and Stuarts. I have lived in London all my life and prior to turning 50 worked in a variety of management roles in both the private and public sector. My Airbnb walks have enabled me to use my long and extensive life experience to share my love of London History and London now with fascinating guests from around the world.

Where you'll be
Our walk starting at Parliament Square mostly avoids the busy mostly modern Victoria Street which links the start of our walk with the end of the walk at Victoria Station and instead takes you down back streets. Here clues easily ignored by those in a rush tell us so much about the last two thousand years of Travellers who have walked exactly the same streets that you will walk down.

The tour is about the Victoria area of London but the travel trends of the last two thousand years it discusses can be applied to most countries. Travel changes both those who travel and those who meet travellers. This tour therefore explains why travel changes people.
