What you'll do

Imagine you and your friends on the 41' sailboat "Sea Song"enjoying the peace and quite of the Hilton Head shoreline...."livin' the life". You haven't experienced the real Hilton Head until you have been out on the water. Weather permitting, we will sail from Skull Creek Marina out to Port Royal Sound and look for Dolphins along the way. I have a 50 Ton Masters License from the United States Coast Guard with a sailing and towing endorsement. The boat has passenger insurance. Guests may bring snacks and libations and may take part in the sailing process or just sit back and enjoy the ride! No guarantee that the wind or the dolphins will cooperate although we always say "once you get to the boat, you've arrived." No experience is necessary although you should take a pill or remedy if you have known issues with any type of motion sickness.
Other things to note:
The outing will last 3~4 hours depending on weather mostly and your comfort with the experience. You are going boating, water is involved, you may get wet! Dress for the weather in comfortable clothes that make it easy to move about.
I have 20 years of experience sailing. This is our 3rd boat. Laura is first mate and has been a sailor for over 35 years.
I am flexible on departure/ return times. If you want an earlier cruise or a sunset cruise, just book what shows available and then we can arrange after we talk.

I love sailing. I have been boating for more than 50 years and in the last 20 I've become infatuated with sailing. I love the peace and quiet it affords and the skill involved. I have raced sailboats on both the Hudson River and Long Island Sound for the past ten years. It's the most fun you can have at 6 knots! I have sailed this particular boat up and down the East Coast from Long Island Sound to Hilton Head Island multiple times in the last 7 years and I enjoy it more each time.

Where you'll be

“The Port Royal sound system is unique compared to other coastal areas in North America because it is a large embayment dominated by expansive salt marshes and an area with high salinity water. An embayment was created when rising sea levels submerged valleys along the coast. The net result was and is that the Port Royal Sound represents a marine habitat that extends inland for 10 miles.” (from the Lowcountry Institutes website.)

One thing the host cannot guarantee is wind! Even with little wind it's a great experience to be out on the water. My husband and I joined another couple along with Dom and his first mate. We have great conversation and saw so many dolphins, some quite close. We saw the most beautiful sunset while on the boat. Dom is very knowledgeable and we covered many topics. If you're not a talker, you can just sit and relax and enjoy the views. He is all about making you comfortable while sailing. We will go sailing with them again next time we visit HHI.
