What you'll do

You’ve seen most of the major sights in Berlin, right? I’ll take you further east to explore parts of Berlin most tours don’t take you. There’s a lot of depth to Berlin, and endless corners to explore.

On this 5 hour tour, we’ll head east down the main boulevard of Karl-Marx-Allee, stopping at notable sights and to admire the communist-era architecture. We’ll stop by the headquarters of the Stasi, one of the most feared and effective secret police forces in history, before heading further east to explore the sprawl of plattenbau, the prefabricated housing estates beloved by the GDR government, in either Lichtenberg or Marzahn. We’ll head further east and climb up for a view over east Berlin, before looping around and taking in other notable sights of East Berlin on the way back to the centre.

I’ll tailor the tour to suit you - we can skip some things and include extra things. We’ll cover a lot of ground, both on foot and on U-bahn and trams - a fantastic way to get around East Berlin - so wear comfortable shoes. We can stop whenever we want to grab a coffee or to have a beer in an East Berlin kneipe (pub) or bar. If you’re hungry, I know some interesting little places to eat too. I’ll give you tips for the rest of your stay in Berlin and will help you get to other places of interest. Basically, we’ll stop for the day when you’ve had enough!

I’m a tour guide and travel photographer who fell in love with Berlin back in 1995 when I came to study here, and lived in student accommodation in deep East Berlin. I’ve been coming back ever since and eventually settled here a few years ago. I love meeting new people and sharing my enthusiasm for this most fascinating of cities. I’m warm, friendly and will make sure you make the most of your time here in Berlin

Where you'll be

We go deeper into East Berlin, seeing the dramatic Stalinist architecture, and enjoying a view over the housing estates built by the East German government.

Glen is a very kind and knowledgeable guide that drives you to hidden east Berlin places. You can get a glimpse of the architecture of East Berlin years that is now live in front of you in the city. Also, you can get a broader idea of the Berlin districts by a high view of the city. Totally recommended if you would like to experience more things about the east period.

This was one of the best tours I’ve ever taken. And I usually hate tours! Glen does an incredible job of engaging you and making sure you fully understand everything you’re looking at. He’s put together an itinerary that shows you parts of East Berlin you won’t find on other tours. He gives you history but relates it to the current day. He clearly has done a lot of research, so he’s well prepared to answer any questions tourists might have. He’s also one the nicest guys you’ll meet. At the end of our tour I remember specifically how much attention he paid to ensuring we all got home on a safe and logical route. I recommend this tour without reservation.

Glenn is a great tour guide, and I highly recommend this event. He’s very knowledgeable yet gives very clear explanations of the world around him. I would’ve never ventured into east berlin without his guidance. The tour was very upbeat and gave an engaging glimpse into the life and history of east Berlin, as advertised!
