What you'll do

(Warning - because of track works on the U5 U-bahn, the last stretch/stop require quite a diversion from the usual route - so things will take longer on this bit.)

You’ve seen most of the major sights in Berlin, right? I’ll take you further east to explore parts of Berlin most tours don’t take you. There’s a lot of depth to Berlin, and endless corners to explore.

On this 5 hour tour, we’ll head east down the main boulevard of Karl-Marx-Allee, stopping at notable sights and to admire the communist-era architecture. We’ll stop by the headquarters of the Stasi, one of the most feared and effective secret police forces in history, before heading further east to explore the sprawl of plattenbau, the prefabricated housing estates beloved by the GDR government, in either Lichtenberg or Marzahn. We’ll head further east and climb up for a view over east Berlin, before looping around and taking in other notable sights of East Berlin on the way back to the centre.

I’ll tailor the tour to suit you - we can skip some things and include extra things. We’ll cover a lot of ground, both on foot and on U-bahn and trams - a fantastic way to get around East Berlin - so wear comfortable shoes. I’ll give you tips for the rest of your stay in Berlin and will help you get to other places of interest. Basically, we’ll stop for the day when you’ve had enough!

I’m a tour guide and travel photographer who fell in love with Berlin back in 1995 when I came to study here, and lived in student accommodation in deep East Berlin. I’ve been coming back ever since and eventually settled here a few years ago. I love meeting new people and sharing my enthusiasm for this most fascinating of cities. I’m warm, friendly and will make sure you make the most of your time here in Berlin

It was fascinating going on a deep dive into the history of East Berlin. Glen was an engaging and thoughtful guide, and even helped me make a booking at the Kino International cinema. I highly recommend this experience.

It’s not a “touristic” tour, but a deep historical experience in Germany. I really enjoyed all the knowledge that Glen showed about the history and culture. Definitely recommend

This is the tour to take in Berlin! If you have an interest in East Berlin this will be the best choice for you. Glen is super knowledgable about the history of the different neighbourhoods. He tells stories that breathe life into places that you never knew had significance and ties them into the overall history of the city, country (or countries*) and the world. He also has loads of useful tips for the rest of your time in Berlin. I was extremely lucky to be the only person that booked on the day of my tour and it was the highlight of my holiday in Berlin. Thank you Glen for being such an awesome guide. 😊

Our understanding of Berlin would have been so incomplete without this tour. The tour was easy going and at the same time we learned about politics, history, city planning, architecture and people in the past and in the present East Berlin. Glen is an excellent guide who has the ability to present things in a compelling way. He also managed to adapt the tour according to our interests which was a nice surprise.
