What you'll do
Coffee is a beautiful lens through which to understand New York. After building a website about neighborhood coffee (www.nycUnderGrounds.com) and interviewing coffee roasters and shop owners, I've come to understand New York in a whole new way. About Me: Before moving to New York 14 years ago, I roasted my own coffee in the middle of no where America. I've been leading coffee tours for a local group of coffee enthusiasts called Coffee Hunters for the past year. This tour is some of the best of the best spots we've visited. About the Tour: With in emphasis on tasting, we will learn about how to talk about the different ways that coffee tastes. Discover a spectrum of acidity, sweetness, body and aftertaste while learning about the coffee roasters behind the scenes. I'll discuss the three waves of American Coffee and how they've influenced New Yorkers coffee habits. We will visit three shops and "cup" or taste coffee at each. Each will be within a five to ten minute walk of each other.
After interviewing New York City's great coffee roasters and building an online of coffee guides to the city's neighborhoods--www.nycundergrounds.com, I've begun leading tours of great coffee shops. An English teacher by day, I also co-host a group in the city called Coffee Hunters that explores the city through the lens of coffee. Through these activities, I've met many coffee artisans who've devoted their lives and careers to roasting and brewing our daily beverages.
