What you'll do

While Pittsburgh is commonly known as the "City of Bridges," it also tops the charts in the number of public city steps. With over 800 stairways throughout many of its 90 neighborhoods, these "paper streets" can be a fun place to explore. Join my friend Laura, the creator and publisher of MisSteps.com: Our Missed Connections with Pittsburgh's City Steps, on a stairway adventure through Troy Hill and Spring Garden.

You'll learn about the history of this special form of pedestrian travel and two neighborhoods that played essential roles in the city's early economic development.

Comfortable and sturdy shoes are required. Please note that two flights on this tour require participants to climb up ~150 steps, go down two flights of ~100 steps, and occasionally navigate uneven terrain.
Other things to note
Every participant will have to sign a waiver. - Tour will take rain or shine! Please message or call if there are any concerns about inclement weather. - No bathrooms at the meeting point.

I followed my husband to Pittsburgh five years ago and saw the opportunity to reinvent myself. Inspired by Michael's entrepreneurial spirit I decided to offer historical tours through Pittsburgh. Since I earned a Master's Degree in Art and Architectural History, and I used to live in Rome (Italy), Berlin (Germany) as well as New York City (all great places for art + architecture), I though this would be e great fit. So I founded Bike the Burgh Tours first in 2015, and added Walk the Burgh Tours a year and a half later. After two years of doing every tour myself, I found some equally passionate and enthusiastic, local tour guides who love this city and who also strive for excellence. We love to show off our city, we love our job, and we love meeting people from all around the world! Come join us while exploring the Burgh!

Where you'll be

We will meet in the Strip District, then walk over a beautiful bridge, past the old Heinz Ketchup Factory. Then you'll walk about 2 miles, up and down several flights of public stairs that lead up and down the very authentic neighborhoods of Troy Hill and Spring Garden. Expert Laura will tell you all about the history of these communities and the public effort to preserve these stairs. Breathtaking views will make this a very unique experience!
