What you'll do

The ORIGINAL crabbing experience in the Bay Area teaching The Art of Crabbing. This experience has been going since the start of Airbnb's experiences. We will meet at the Chit Chat Cafe located in Pacifica on the Pacifica pier on stable dry land (no boats).

We'll provide insights on the nature of crabbing and fishing in the bay area, what crabs like to eat and why the bay is home to a large and distinctly diverse crab and shellfish population. Crabbing can be hit or miss so please understand this experience’s goal is to teach how to catch crab. The community around crabbing is unique in that people from all walks of life are there so prepare to meet new friendly folks!

Once we arrive at the pier we'll provide a thorough overview of the equipment and tactics used in the Bay Area to catch crab. We will be going for Dungeness Crab the best in the Bay. We will be using a combination of crab snares off the rod and reel as well as a crab trap. We'll share how this has been an actively growing hobby of locals in the area and explain some of the different types of wildlife in the bay and the best way to prepare truly San Francisco meal.

Please keep in mind that we will be standing for long periods of time while crabbing.. Please bring additional seating if you feel the need to have it for yourself. The goal is to learn a life skill by the end of the experience!

My name is Alex and crabbing is a true passion of mine. I am a chef and an avid outdoorsmen. I think too many people have a disconnect between their food and where it comes from. I make my own snares from hand to provide each participant with one to learn this wonderful skill.

I am looking to meet new people, enjoy time being by the ocean, teach those willing about west coast crabbing and harvest it's bounty with respect to mother nature. I am a San Francisco native so I have a lot to share!

We provide this unique once in a lifetime experience within the season (Dungeness crab season is usually the first Saturday of Nov-June 30th) that truly is the gift that can keep on giving!

If your looking at crabbing closer to San Francisco or looking for off season crabbing please check out my SF based experience under the Golden Gate Bridge.

Where you'll be

The only pier in Pacifica right off the 1 highway. Major access highways to the 1 would be the 101, 280, & 92. Because it is right along the Pacific Ocean with no protection from the wind it is imperative you dress with many layers as it can get cold quickly. We will meet at the Warming Hut Cafe which is along Beach Blvd right at the base of the pier.

What a fun event for a big group to do. It was very interesting to learn how to crab, and then environment could’ve been better or more beautiful. It was very cold and even with four layers we were still freezing, but it was super fun. I would definitely recommend this as an awesome San Francisco experience. We are also got to take home 12 crabs and cook them and have them for lunch. Alex did an a great job

We had a fun relaxing time at a great scenic spot. It was easier than I thought. And we brought home a bunch of crabs. Thanks Alex!

Our location had to change but God works in mysterious ways. This location was even better . Alex is an awesome instructor for all ages . I recommend him fully !

Concerned that Airbnb and this host would rather have someone attend with a covid exposure than issue a refund. Sad to see finances take priority over safety, especially when we are all being asked to be accountable and help mitigate the spread of covid.

Alex, I always wanted to take your experience. I had a wonderful time perfecting the art of crabbing. Can’t wait for the next class!
