What you'll do

I'll leads guests through Boulder on pedal-assisted Rad Power Bikes, using the city's abundance of murals -- obvious and obscure -- as the foundation of a map that will have us winding through downtown alleys, soaring freely along tree-lined bikeways, slow rolling through quiet and funky neighborhoods and discovering sites that only a longtime local can show you. Before departing our downtown launch point, we'll do a round of introductions and I'll let riders know what I've got planned for them that day. The ride begins with a brief safety/comfort check to ensure everything's working as it should. Then it's off to see the murals. There are over 60 in Boulder, so I have a few options for routes. This tour was conceived to coincide with the Streetwise Boulder Mural Festival and I know the backgrounds on some of the murals, and in a few cases, the artists themselves. I've lived in Boulder for over 30 years and along with the murals am able to mix in anecdotes, provide a little history, and in general share my passion for Boulder, art and showing people a good time on two wheels. These "joyrides" offer an eclectic, unique-yet-accessible, personal, relatable, positive and fun eBiking experience that showcases the beauty of Boulder and spreads the joy, wellbeing and sense of freedom eBiking provides. Riders are going to leave with a better feel for a Boulder they never knew existed.

I've lived in Boulder for 30+ years and have been involved with the local arts and music scene for most of it, as a DJ (radio and live), event producer and more, and support art/artists however I can. DJ'ing and podcast production/hosting, and a pleasant, fun demeanor give me the conversational personality needed to be the ideal host for this kind of tour. In Feb ’19, I bought a Radwagon eBike. It has changed my life. I average 3k miles per year, got rid of a car and became an unabashed evangelizer of the benefits these bikes bring: a true sense of freedom and a re/connection with my inner child and the environment around me. I ride year round with no thought to distance (other than what the battery allows) or conditions (as long as it's not icy). I love Boulder, I love art, I love these bikes and I love sharing that love with others.

Where you'll be

This is a 3-3.5 hour ride visiting many murals and other objects of interest. We’ll go through several neighborhoods and ride on a mix of bike paths, trails and surface streets (keeping time near busy streets to a minimum). The mural locations take us from central Boulder to north or south Boulder depending on the route I choose for that day. Regardless of direction, I've got plenty of stories, fun facts and history to keep my guests engaged.

When you have a morning or afternoon free in Boulder, or even the Denver area, look into Joel's bike tour of the crazy murals placed all over the city. Riding a bike is really the only appropriate manner to view the city murals. And the e-bikes we used were wonderful. Not quite a scooter, but definitely more than a multi-speed bike. The trip is about three hours, and I think we traveled 10+ miles. But the actual amount of peddling was maybe 25% of the time. The rest was handled by the bike automation (and sometimes downhill). Joel is a good guy to talk to and could answer most of our questions. When he didn't know, he would just make something up (just kidding....he is a very trustworthy guy. Our pre-trip communication was great and Joel helped us prepare for both the weather and status on local mountain fires. All was done safely and we enjoyed a lovely day in Boulder. The temp was only in the mid-50's, so we bundled up, and finished up during sunlight hours. We had to return to Denver that night but Joel even offered to guide us for after-ride cocktails. Maybe next time. We will most likely return, hope the rides are still available.

The eBike murals tour was great. Joel was responsive to our requests and we felt like we were being shown around town by a true local. The murals were beautiful and powerful to experience. The neighborhoods, views, natural elements were very cool to see. Overall it was a really nice way to spend half a day, bike, shop, lunch in Boulder. Park at 15th st garage and walk two blocks through alley to Joel’s spot behind dojo4.

If you are looking for a unique, healthy, and Covid safe way to spend the afternoon, I highly recommend this tour. My friends and I had blast with Joel. Although the murals were impressive, the sightseeing in all of the Boulder neighborhoods was equally as inspiring. Even though I'm a Boulder Native, Joel took me on bike paths and to neighborhoods that I've never been to. The ebikes are a pure joy to ride (you don't have to be fit) and I felt like a kid again! 5 stars
