What you'll do

Savor Dundee Hills wine and its terroir slowly, on foot.

Kick off your heels, pull on your boots, and hit the hills the vintners and their crews tackle all year. Venture off the beaten path with me for a full day hike down charming country lanes and through private vineyards. Along the way, you’ll engage your muscles and indulge your senses while gaining an intimately local perspective of the Dundee Hills AVA. You'll enjoy private tastings with my friends and neighbors as you tour their cellars, sample their wines, hear their stories, and learn how they grow the grapes and produce the wines that have made Oregon the epicenter of new world Pinot Noir. We'll provide a delicious picnic lunch and don't worry, you won't have to carry any bottles on the hike, your wine purchases will be waiting for you at your car at the end of the day. I hope you'll find ditching the limo and savoring the terroir slowly, on foot is as sublime a pleasure as sipping fine wine. IMPORTANT! Each winery charges its own tasting fee ($25) but waives this with wine purchases. This fee is not included in the hike price.

Raised in the Dundee Hills, on the land my husband and I now farm, I bring a deep love and understanding of the local terroir and its people. My close bond to Oregon wines began early, picking grapes with friends, then pouring in tasting rooms, and eventually as European representative for Rex Hill, and most recently as sales associate for Evening Land. I'm also an avid hiker and globetrotter with a soft spot for Australian Shepherds. The onslaught of traffic whizzing past my farm spurred me to offer a greener, healthier, and more enriching wine country tour. Rather walk? Then ditch the limo and follow me through the vineyards and off the beaten path. I believe you'll find it a day well spent. CPR-AED certified

Where you'll be

We'll wander down charming country lanes, through private vineyards, and along foot trails with sweeping vistas. The hike starts and finishes at my family pig farm and crosses 4.5 miles of hilly terrain with a 500 ft gain. You'll visit 3 select world-class wineries, taste exquisite wine, explore a beautiful wine cellar, talk with winery owners about the joys and trials of grape growing and winemaking, and listen to stories from industry pioneers.

I can’t say enough about our day with Susan. We met at the farm and learned about the history of the place. We hiked through beautiful groves of hazelnut trees and through vineyard roads. The views were breathtaking. Each winery was different and Susan helped us know their history. We had a lovely picnic in a vineyard and sipped many delicious Pinot’s. It was easy, well coordinated, and Susan was a knowledgeable and gracious guide. We loved the day and highly recommend the experience. It was most fun I’ve ever had getting 14,000 steps! We’ve been to many wineries and this was the most unique and personal experience for us. A special day we will always remember.

This was an amazing way to spend a beautiful fall day in the PNW. She took us through the rolling vineyards of Dundee and we made stops at two different wineries for tastings of some delicious Pinots. Our final tasting actually ended up being right back at the bunkhouse on Susan's farm that we stayed at so it was a perfect end to our hike. It truly was amazing getting to learn about the Willamette Valley and see it through the eyes of a local.

Wonderful experience walking through the vineyards and tasting at three wineries that were very different but captured the uniqueness of the Dundee Hills. Even with some rain it was fun. Highly recommend for anybody who enjoys the outdoors and wine.

This hike far exceeded my expectations. Susan was a wonderful host and gave some great personal insight into the region, the wines and the history Dundee. The wineries we visited were a perfect mix of big money and small mom and pop. The hike itself was very doable. Would do it again just to spend the day with Susan’s family on her farm. Already recommending that my parents in their mid 60s do this tour soon.
