What you'll do

Get out of the city and go deep into the Japanese countryside by bicycle!

We start and end our ride in front of Shin Kiryu Station - just 1.5 hour direct train from Tokyo's Asakusa Station. After getting fit on your bicycle (2019 Cannondale Quick 6), we will set out on an adventurous loop to explore the history, food, and natural landscape of the foothills lining the edge of Japan's North Alps. Along the way, we'll check out a unique-to-Kiryu bakery, hidden shrines, historical silk mills, all with the serene backdrop of riding past wild mountains, rivers, and lakes.

This is a relaxing but heart pumping way to explore a different side of Japan: outside of confined spaces, into the fresh air!

*Please note that this experience may take 6-8 hours depending on the pace of the group. So ETA back to Tokyo will be 5~7pm. Breakfast, Lunch, and Hybrid Bikes are included in your experience.

My name is Rob, and I'm a local cycling guide in Japan! (Instagram: @bike.tour.japan)

I absolutely love exploring the backroads of Japan's countryside that are often overlooked. I have guided countless adventures throughout Gunma, Tochigi, Nagano, and the Setouchi Sea regions. I can show you places that only local cyclists know about—spots that are not in guidebooks or blogs. My passion is empowering people to explore Japan's great outdoors on your own terms, with the power of your own legs!

Where you'll be

We'll start from historical silk city of Kiryu, which rests between the Watarase River and Japan's North Alps. Coming from Tokyo, you'll see incredible views of several well-loved mountains, including Mt Akagi, Mt Haruna, and Mt Myogi. Kiryu boasts one of the most beautiful settings in the Kantō region, and this is the perfect place to start and end our ride.
