What you'll do

After meeting at the meeting point, we will take you to see some hidden treasures. Places, tourists usually won't see. You'll have time to take pictures of many outstandingly beautiful temples and a historical shrine. The temple walk will last about four hours, so please be prepeared and wear sneekers or shoes you feel comfortable in. At the sites you'll feel as if you were in a different time - promise! Enjoy the serenity of the gardens. It's amazing to find such places in the middle of a modern city - you will see. On the way, we will taste green tea at a tea shop and if you like you can buy Macha or Green Tea and later during the walk we will taste Kamaboko (fishham) when passing a small factory that has produced this delicacy for over a hundert years and Umegae Mocchi (a typical Hakata sweet). After the walk we will take you back to the meeting point if you wish.

Masato was born in Fukuoka and Anne in Europe.
We lived, worked and traveled in Europe and Asia and we both really love temples and shrines. The beauty of those wooden buildings, their gardens and their history has captured us.
Come with us for a walk to the temples, get some insight into their history, take pictures of those precious places.
On the way we will taste green tea, Umegae Mocchi (a typical Hakata sweet) and handmade Kamaboko (fishham) produced by a small factory that has existed for over a hundred years.

Where you'll be

We will be around Hakata area - off the beaten tourist tracks and visit several Temple sites, which we find absolutely beautiful. We love the calmnes of the gardens and the many oportunities to take most wonderful pictures. But most of all, we love the feeling of Japan's history.

A perfect way to learn about Fukuoka and Japan! We have lived here for many years and learned so much, enjoyed the snacks and appreciated the personal attention that Anne and Masato provided. We really loved everything about this tour!

It was really good experience to me. I have visited several cities in Japan and it was second time for Fukuoka, but I had no knowledge about Japanese Buddhism, Gen and 神社 such like these. Masato and Anne they are enthusiastic and so professional to tell the stories around these and I could learn many. Also, the places they took me to have break time, green tea, fish cake, mochi places were really authentic and could never be found myself. The best tour thing was Buddha statue in the Tochoji temple. 강추합니다

It’ was truly an amazing time with Masato and Anne! Anne and Masato have profound knowledge of Hakata local history, Japanese culture and customs. We get to understand Japan and Fukuoka by walking through the ancient neighborhood, tasting yummy local street food and visiting the beautiful temples and shrines. I have no reservation to recommend any visitor traveling here.

Our first trip to Japan was truly fulfilling! We had a great time with Anne and Masako who introduced us to Hakata and Fukuoka City. Their distinctive shines and temple and somehow a little bit of their way of living past and present. Very interesting! Coming from a city that’s totally different from our way of life. Anne and Masako, the lovely couple have been very informative and we wouldn’t have enjoyed our tour around the city without these two. THANK YOU Anne and Masako!!!!!

From the beginning to the end of the tour was a great time with Anne and Masato! At the first stop, they provided us with warm tea, which really helped due to the cold weather that day. I learned so much more about temples and shrines here in Japan. I would have never known the deep history behind Hakata’s significant connection behind all these well kept shrines and temples. Along with tasting home made fish cake! It was amazing! My favorite part was meeting the largest sitting wooden Buddha. My dad’s favorite was seeing the pagoda. They were very courteous and thoughtful. The tour was interesting till the end! Definitely will recommend to those who appreciate deep history of Japan!
