What you'll do
Architecture is the physical product of a community, and thus a great approach to take if you want to understand more about a city and it's culture.
Our tour on contemporary architecture is a great introduction to the nuts and bolts of the world’s most liveable city! You'll get an insight into Danish architecture and culture through buildings, public spaces, urban development and bike lanes.
Recent building design and urban development are NOT exclusively for architects or architecturally interested!
Starting from the central city the route will take you to places such as:
Copenhill waste-to-power-plant-and-ski-slope (!)
Parliament area
Old town Vestervold
Kalvebod harbour area
Public spaces at Islands Brygge
Havneholmen commercial and residential
Amager Fælled urban nature
Copenhagen architecture
Danish Radio broadcasting complex
Public community projects in former working-class area
Maritime and cosy Christianshavn
Art school campus + more at Holmen
Projects by architects such as:
Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG)
JDS Architects (Julien De Smedt)
Lundgaard & Tranberg
SHL Architects (Schmidt, Hammer & Lassen)
Dorte Mandrup
Arne Jacobsen
Vandkunsten
COBE Architects
Gehl Architects
Olafur Eliasson
OMA
MVRDV
Jean Nouvel
If the timing doesn't work, or 4 hours is a bit much, please consider our other tours: https://www.airbnb.ie/users/show/178775715
Other things to note
Copenhageners are not afraid of water, so in case of rain, we'll go through with the tour. I'll try as best possible to make stops out of the rain, and we might decide to take a break on a café.

Alice has a degree in philosophy and modern culture and has worked with urban planning at a strategic level. She has a profound interest in how architecture and city planning is influencing everyday life in the city.
Asser has experience teaching and practising architecture, and have made a living from his passion by founding beCopenhagen, a bike tour operator sharing the local's view on the world's most liveable city.
We both have a passion for debating and exchanging views on building design, urban spaces, and community.
And of course, we have a thing or two to add about the world's leading bike infrastructure! :)

Where you'll be
We'll bike through various neighbourhoods to visit famous architecture highlights and unnoticed gems of public buildings, all of which reveals something essential about the Danish community and Copenhagen lifestyle.

I booked this experience as a birthday present my girlfriend in November and it was one of the best celebrations we could have had! Due to the pandemic we couldn't travel so we decided to get to know the city where we live a bit better! Even though my girlfriend has been living in Copenhagen for some years now, she learnt so much in this bike tour! Getting to know the stories of all these buildings we normally pass in our daily life was super interesting. We would recommend this tour not only for tourists but also locals that want to know more about architecture and their history!

My son, my husband and I were in Copenhagen for a long weekend. We did a Architecture tour with Asser for 4 hours one afternoon. I would say that the tour was the highlight of our trip. Asser went out of his way to give us lots of information, respond to all our questions about the Danish way of life and the how the country is governed. We found the tour truly inspiring in terms of the places that Asser took us to see. We learned lots about sustainability in Denmark and went away wishing we could leave London and move to Copenhagen! Asser also provided us with design bikes which were a novelty and a really fun way to see the city.

A beautiful tour through Copenhagen with a brilliant host, who not only welcomes you to his city, sharing all the intricate details, that might be lost when exploring on your own, but also connects on a personal level and is genuinely interested in your experiences and opinions!

The tour is an excellent choice for half a day trip in Copenhagen to see some modern or relatively modern architecture. You go to the spots that are certainly not listed as main tourist attractions on Tripadvisor, but to the places that truly tell you about what Danish lifestyle/living/architecture look like right now. Asser is an architect, but he is very knowledgeable about other aspects of the city life, history and politics (we bombarded him with all sorts of questions about Denmark! :)) and certainly knows how to show you around so that you would have a “wow”-experience. The tour was our absolute highlight of the week and we would definitely recommend it to anyone. Try to schedule it in the beginning or in the middle of your vacation - you may want to come back to some places you will be taken to and spend more time there.
