What you'll do

This experience will offer a privileged view of an endangered species, the gray dolphin. A unique experience of contact with nature and adventure, while helping to research and conserve this dolphin species. Your guide in this experience will be a researcher who has been studying cetaceans for over 20 years in the North Bay. The target will be a resident population of 120 porpoises that remain in the bay all year. The first step is a 30-50 minute online lecture on the species and its environment. In this lecture, information on the ecology and conservation of cetaceans and gray dolphins will be provided, as well as general guidance on field trips. In the second stage of the experiment, we will choose a morning with favorable weather (without wind and waves) and we will meet the dolphins for photo-identification. You will have the opportunity to observe the dolphins, to know the scientific research focused on the conservation of the fauna, to observe sea birds and historical points of the Island of Santa Catarina. During the observation you can practice nature photography, you will have information about the biology of the species and beautiful souvenir records (photo of drone and animals). We will have stops on an island, historical and natural points of the North Bay and for a swim in the sea. Embark on this adventure for a unique experience with wildlife, helping the research and conservation of this species.
Other things to note
There is a small chance of not finding the dolphins. In this case, we offer a new outlet (to be rescheduled) or a 50% refund of the amount paid. We need a calm sea forecast. Ideally, the guest should have flexibility of dates and times. Time can turn and get wet in navigation.

I have a degree in biology from the Federal University of Santa Catarina, with a master's and doctorate in zoology from the Federal University of Paraná. I have over 20 years of experience in research with cetaceans (whales and dolphins), having participated in several projects, such as at Banco dos Abrolhos and in the Santos Basin. I have studied this population of porpoises since 2000, when I did my scientific initiation. I want to bring information and knowledge about marine species to the public, and provide unique experiences of contact with marine fauna.

Where you'll be

The North Bay of Santa Catarina is a coastal environment rich in natural beauty and history. In it lives a resident population of gray porpoises, estimated at 120 individuals who live there all year. We will go looking for dolphins leaving Santa Catarina Island or another point in the North Bay (to be agreed). After a period of 1-2 hrs watching dolphins, we will make one or more stops at points of interest in the bay.
