What you'll do

✔ Highly-rated by guests who want an insight into life in rural Japan

Nestled deep in the lush green mountains of the Kumano region of Japan is the village of Ryujinmura, the “Dragon Village”. Ancient beliefs about dragons are still alive here. With the help of pre-recorded aerial footage shot with a drone camera, you’ll fly like a dragon high over the mountains and hover over the waterfalls that dot the village.

I will be narrating live, and you can ask questions anytime. Learn about the deeper meaning behind Godzilla and Pokemon. Find out why Japan’s Zen temples have ceilings adorned with dragons.

You’ll get majestic views of the rolling mountains at sunrise, and learn about a UNESCO World Heritage-registered pilgrimage path, the Kumano Kodo. You’ll get to witness waterfall meditation and then practice 90 seconds of breath meditation together among majestic cedars.

Afterwards we will meet my friend Shu, a tea master who harvests wild tea from the mountains to make fermented tea that can only be found in the Dragon Village.

You’ll also learn about my farmhouse restoration and organic farming project in the village. Proceeds from this experience will go towards restoration work on the farmhouse.

Sit back, relax, and be transported to a world unlike your own.

I was born in Singapore and worked across Asia on documentaries commissioned by Al Jazeera English. Then I came to live in Japan 9 years ago.

Over the last 3 years I guided over 1,600 guests on Discover the Alternative Fushimi Inari (https://www.airbnb.com/experiences/269136), one of the top-rated experiences in Kyoto City. In the last few months I have virtually hosted hundreds of others on my first online experience Forest Bathing in Kyoto's Sacred Mountain (https://www.airbnb.com/experiences/1739239).

I am now a resident of Ryujinmura, the Dragon God Village in Wakayama Prefecture, and am restoring an old farmhouse to its original state. Eventually the farmhouse will host people from all around the world who are interested in forest bathing, organic farming practices, and Japan’s rich craft culture. "Fly" here to learn more!

Lee's experiences are quite an experience. This tour had a cinematic feel to it and you did feel like you were in Kyoto. I got to see Kyoto in different seasons and the cultural information was such an eye opener. It was great to see Mori, his adorable furry friend, who kept us all smiling. Lee provided practical information for any of us who want to venture to Japan. Hopefully someday I can be there in person but at the moment, Lee made this virtual experience a magical one.

It's a fairytale/magic journey and almost an hour of amazing views in one experience. You'll learn some things you never knew and I was very relaxed and happy after the experience. Awesome, Thank you, Lee!

This was my first Online Experience, and I couldn't imagine a better introduction than what Lee and the beautiful landscapes of rural Japan have to offer. My impressions of Japan have been formed by the bright lights and bustle of Tokyo, so I'm glad our dragon flew through lush rolling mountains, hot springs, and waterfalls to show me what lies outside the city. Lee's breadth of knowledge is very impressive, he answered a variety of questions from our group in great detail. I especially enjoyed learning about the crafts of fermented tea-making and Japanese charcoal. I'm glad my participation in the Dragon Village experience will help Lee's efforts on the restoration of a neglected farmhouse. I highly recommend that anyone looking for a unique and fulfilling experience sign up to take a ride with Lee and his dragon.

Lee has such obvious love and enthusiasm for sharing Japanese nature and culture. The aerial shots of forest were beautiful, and that, along with Lee's commentary made me want to go to Japan as soon as I can! This is the second experience I've done with Lee and I absolutely recommend taking one.
