What you'll do
My walking tour of Bergen will take you on a walking tour through the most beautiful city in Norway, passing not just the major attractions but also the secret streets that only the locals know.
Beginning at the UNESCO World Heritage Site Bryggen, we will begin with a historical overview of Bergen's old wharf area. We will learn about the Hanseatic League, the trade of stockfish, and why Bergen was Scandinavia's most important commercial city for hundreds of years.
Once we have been introduced to Bergen's history, we will head up and out into the secret streets and alleys that made up the old town - where the Norwegians would live while the Hanseatic League traded at Bryggen. We will uncover what it was like to live in Bergen in the old times but also what it is like to live in Bergen today. We will pass some of the most photogenic views, houses, streets and alleys, as well as famous street artworks and historical sites.
We will make our way back into the more modern part of the city before crossing into the scenic Nordnes Peninsula - one of the best preserved places in Bergen. The tour ends at the famous fish market.
With my walk, you'll see the secret spots of Bergen only the locals know about. You'll also learn about Bergen past and present and get an insight into life here.
Other things to note
In winter it may be icy on the cobblestones, so please wear appropriate shoes. Also, Bergen is a very rainy city. I seldom cancel a tour because of the weather, so dress appropriately.

I am an authorised tour guide and tour leader and have been for five years. Additionally, I spent two years teaching Scandinavian film and television at the University of Oslo. I have been one of the top-rated guides at my company.
I am originally from Australia but moved to Bergen five years ago. This gives me a unique position as I understand what it's like to see Bergen (and Norway!) for the first time, but also I know what it's like to live here as a local.
Through my work, I've been all over Bergen, the fjords, and the country. I've seen all corners of Norway and can provide useful information.
