What you'll do

Welcome to a world of a Japanese beauty! Why don't you use your daily mug cup, pick up 3flowers & 2leaves from outside and enjoy this authentic art? As a gift, too, you can share with your birthday friend who lives far distance!
(Just watching is also OK if you can't find equipments)

In Japan, you sometimes hear the term,'wabi sabi' which refers to a sense of elegant and refined simplicity. Partially
influenced by Zen, this concept represents a unique sense of Japanese beauty, strongly influencing tea ceremony & flower arrangement.

In my session, I have simplified it to 1 kind of flowers(3pcs)and 1 type of tree branch or bushes(3pcs),so anybody can make their own stylish arrangement! My session include not only Ikebana but also the story of the area I live (Kyoto), followed by a short history of Japanese flower arrangement and my flower school(Kousyuryu). So if you'd like to feel Japan, it also will be perfect fit for you!
After that, I demonstrate and explain the necessary technique and skills.
Now it's your turn!
The best part of my session is you can easily apply my technique to your daily life, sure to impress your family & friends.
The added advantage is you can enjoy a wide variety of flowers with guests through 4 seasons in Japan.
In only an hour, you can create your own flower arrangement and experience the beauty and simplicity of the Japanese sprit.

Hello!! I'm Kiku. My mother was a certified Japanese flower arrangement teacher and had been taught for 40 years. As a young girl, I grew up watching her teaching and captivated by the simplicity and beauty of this unique traditional art. After her retirement, I thought I should pass it down. I also have a licensed teacher, learning for the past 15 years.
I have lived in Kyoto for more than 20 years now and in 2016, I became a certified Kyoto city guide. I've served as an interpreter and english guide for foreign guests, specializing in the areas of Japanese gardens,Japanese cuisine, tea ceremony, traditional arts and crafts, castles, temples and shrines.

This is a delightful experience! You might wonder how much you can learn in an hour, but Kiku makes this special....and the immediate feedback on your own arrangement is so very helpful! I did this by myself, but it would be really fun with a group of friends, too!

We had a work group attend one of Kiku's sessions as a fun escape from our typical Zoom calls. We learned so much about the culture and flower arrangement. I feel that the skills Kiku shared will stay with me everytime I arrange flowers. Kiku also made a point to make everyone feel included and engaged us everystep of the way. Thank you Kiku!

I just want to thank KiKu for a fabulous ikebana flower arranging class. The class was a Birthday gift, and it couldn’t have been more special and fun. KiKu lives in Kyoto and showed pictures of where she was born and lived so it felt like a mini visit to Japan; I loved it as I had visited both places. Then she provided a summary of the flower arranging principles and a demonstration. The result was 2 beautiful arrangements. What a treat & a lovely birthday gift!!!

I decided to celebrate my birthday this year by having an online class to learn the art of Japanese flower arranging with six of my girlfriends. I didn't know what to expect, but was hoping it would be a fun afternoon where we could hang out virtually and learn something new. It exceeded all of our expectations! Kikuko was very responsive and communicated all the necessary details ahead of time to ensure our class ran smoothly. Her attention to detail and personalization was very thoughtful from using my favourite colour of flowers for the demonstration to the personalized sign she created to wish me a happy birthday. She engaged with everyone in the group, and her instruction was easy to follow. The hour flew by! We enjoyed not only learning about flower arrangement, but also the history and sites of Kyoto and her flower school. I cannot thank her enough for being the highlight of my birthday! And my girlfriends all agree too; we can't wait for our Kyoto road trip to go and meet Kikuko in person and learn more from her!! I would highly recommend this online experience for anyone looking for a fun yet perfectly Zen class to learn something new and walk away with a beautiful flower arrangement too. Arigato Kikuko!

I had such a wonderful session with Kikuko sensei! A must do session if you are interested at all in Japanese culture or crafts. Kikuko is so thoughtful in the design of her session, introducing the history of flower arrangement, the key concepts and modelling some incredible designs! She also patiently allows you the space to try it out yourself and offers gentle guidance - you will really learn how to do it yourself and create a gorgeous arrangement. Highly recommend this experience!!
