What you'll do

IMPORTANT: in order to guarantee your safety, visits are made in accordance with barrier gestures, the size of groups has been reduced and the wearing of a mask is requested. Thank you for your understanding.

Strasbourg and its Gothic cathedral stand majestically between the arms of the Ill, at the crossroads of the roads, where the Great and the Little History meet. This walk through the Big Island (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) invites you to discover ten centuries of medieval highlights from the episcopal city of Stradeburgum to the Republic of Strasbourg.
We will begin our Place d'Austerlitz journey with an introduction to the model of the Big Island. We will then walk through the alleys of the Krutenau to discover the ancient fortifications of the 13th century. We will follow the Quai des Bateliers to reach the Spitalthor and the old hospice. We will then head to Petite France to see the towers of the Ponts Couvert and the tanners' houses.
We will take the Grand'Rue to see the Cathedral, jewels of the medieval city and symbol of episcopal power, before passing in front of the Grande Boucherie and the Ancienne Douane, symbols of Strasbourg's economic power. We will conclude our trip Place Gutenberg where the symbols of the power of the rich merchants of the Republic of Strasbourg stand.

Since I was little, I have been passionate about two things: Strasbourg and architecture. I spent my time strolling through the pedestrian streets with my nose in the air to contemplate the buildings, and trying to grasp the secrets behind their history, behind the carved stone facades and half-timbered walls.
Today, I have the chance to live off my passion: I am an architect-urban planner and I am preparing a doctoral thesis in planning. I teach the history and analysis of urban forms at the Strasbourg School of Architecture and every year, I offer my students a guided tour of the city and its history.
For the past few years, I have also been an Airbnb host. And it is always the same pleasure to share with other curious and other lovers the secrets of my beautiful city of Strasbourg.
