What you'll do

You will experience Big Bear Lake like a local and away from the crowds. I’ll take you on a beautiful hike, winding through the forest as we make our way up to Sapphire Hill, where from there Big Bear Lake and the beautiful Bear Valley spread out before you. This is a beginner hike with a couple of challenging spots. The terrain can include mud or snow depending on the time of year. You will not only see the amazing view but also hike through the huge granite boulders Big Bear Lake is so famous for, they are amazing. The legends and stories of the Big Bear Valley are many. I can share as little or as much as you would like during our hike. It’s your hike, you set the tone and the pace. I’ll guide you. Maybe we will spot wild burros left over from the gold mining days, mule deer or coyote. Guests will want to bring a camera. Don’t worry, I’ll help you capture the best shots of the area and it’s beauty, for you to take home and enjoy for years. You will pack your own water, so bring plenty and a pack to carry it. . Wear good hiking boots or shoes with great traction.

I’ve hiked for many years, owned and ran my own sporting goods store for 30 years. I’m retired, I love to hike and make healthy whole food meals and snacks. I’m blessed to live in a area that is gorgeous and I really want to share the beauty and my knowledge of this area with others. Many don’t want the hassle of figuring out the best hike for them and getting the gear prepared the night before so I do everything for you. I also make sure you leave with awesome photos. I took photography classes in Sedona some years ago and I’ve been a avid outdoor photographer ever since.

Where you'll be

We will meet where the locals meet, at the top of Yosemite Drive. It’s located at the top of the Moonridge neighborhood near Bear Mountain Ski Resort. This is my neighborhood, and I’ve walked the trails surrounding it for many years. You won’t find these places on any tour map. Not on All Trails or any other apps. Come enjoy Big Bear Lake like a local!
