What you'll do

You are welcome to meet my team and I for a very unique and traditional dog sled experience with pure breed Alaskan Malamutes - the gentle Giants in the sleddog world.

If you are a single person or a Family of 4, the trip is strictly private. Upon arrival at our location we will sort your winter gear and add additional warm clothes if needed, introduce you to each and every dog in my team and then we head out into the frozen landscape on a traditional Inuit Sled build by myself. This style of traveling means we will all sit together on the big sled while my dogs pull us over frozen rivers and lakes, passing forest and hill views, only steered by voice command. You will learn as much as you want to know about the lifestyle of a musher and his bond with his dogs.
And of course, we will have a camp fire half way into the 3 hour ride. With plenty of time for warm drinks, snacks and, most importantly, dog cuddles. Those guys always appreciate a good belly rub. While hopefully having a northern light flickering above our heads. If you need Camera assistance, I will help you out.

After the trip you can help me un-harnessing the dogs and putting them back into their kennels.
Other things to note
Bring positive energy and excitement with you. Don´t let the size fool you, my dogs are happy to get a belly rub and hugs. Be over prepared with your clothing choice, since sitting on a sled for a long period of time can be demanding in this cold environment.

Meet your host, Philipp

Host on Airbnb since 2019
  • Identity verified
I grew up as an ordinary Berlin city boy with no intention living in the outdoors. But after I got my first Sleddog from a shelter, explored the outdoors more and more, I moved to Sweden and eventually even Svalbard. That was 9 years ago and since then I am living a simple lifestyle with my dogs and go on arctic expeditions with them - with and without guests.

Currently I call 9 Alaskan Malamutes my family and we are living between Åre and Svalbard.

Where you'll be

Jukkasjärvi is well known for its Ice Hotel and Torne River. The mighty river is providing our entry point into the wild landscape of the region, with trails that lead us further away from apparent civilization for a few hours with Sautusjärvi as our main target. A big lake that provides us plenty quiet time and the chance set our camp fire and enjoy an open view for an eventual Northern Lights showing.
