What you'll do

You'll be greeted with an aperitif or non-alcoholic drink (for those who are on the waggon) - you just got your first lesson there! We'll get to know each other sitting in my garden, or on the terrace (depending on what the Galician weather brings). A quick tour of my homestead will give each of us a chance to talk about ourselves (which helps chit chatting with ease). Although the main part of your meal would have already been prepared, giving a light hand in the kitchen contributes to you feeling even more at home so you will be invited to jump right in - tossing the salad, setting the table or just opening a bottle of wine. Music has always been a major part of my life and so no good evening is had without a discourse about your, or my favourite selection. Once the meal is served the conversation moves to cuisine (so come prepared to tell me all about your take-on-food tips if it's even just 'what makes a delicious lunch' list). After dinner has been done and dusted, we move into our game's night. This could be a round of pictionary, dominoes or scrabble (but be warned I am a master at all three) ... or if you grow tired of all the babble - we might just have a go at Karaoke (cue: 'bad sonnet' - second lesson). The evening will be topped off with a nightcap (cocktail, coffee or tea) and desert if you fancy. Your certificate and the end? A belly full of food ... and English!

I am a published author, tutor and journalist who has been living and teaching in Spain for over 15 years. I've owned and operated my own language academy and hosted summer camps and long-weekend getaways for adults for just as many. Prior to moving to Spain, London was my home, and before that the United States and the Caribbean. English is my mother tongue and my experiences throughout my journeys around the world have engendered my main desire - to create a global community. Communication is key in being able to cross cultural borders and thus learning another language becomes much more than just a bucket-list wish. If you are interested in travel, love watching movies, want to really sing along to that popular song, then learning English is a must! Sitting in a class setting is old-hat. So come dine with me and let's just chat.

Where you'll be

The main part of the evening is at my home. This sits on five acres of property in an abandoned hamlet off the beaten path. Walks over to the adjoining villages, along the bordering streams are done before the meal. There are lovely little nooks that are worth the visit (on or off the property) after the meal where you can have some alone time.

More tips

Your language level isn't important. I have enough experience tutoring that I'm able to get you comfortably chatting away within minutes (even with limited vocabulary). Guaranteed! The only think you have to have is the will to try and a promise to engage. Leave your maternal language at the door...

What to bring

Sweater, shawl, scarf or pullover.

As many meals are enhanced with a good wine and palates vary, guests are asked to bring a bottle of their favourite grape (nothing too expensive please - our focus is not the English exchange not the wine). Being able to explain why this is your chosen wi
