What you'll do

We will cycle the old line of the Calabro Lucane Railways (FCL), now converted into a cycle path, which connected the town of Lagonegro, in Basilicata, to Spezzano Albanese, in Calabria, in the stretch that goes from Lauria station to Lake Sirino. We will pass through the old stations, the toll booths and the railway engineering works such as the inverted half-parabola iron bridge in Pastorella. The route, far from any tourist route, winds along the woods of Monte Sirino, the lake of the same name and its sources, passing through the characteristic villages of the Valle del Fiume Noce.
Along the path of about 25 km there are stops where we will be able to relax and refresh ourselves in some typical tavern to taste the local food and wine products and get to know the most authentic aspects of the culture of these places.
The track is mostly on draining concrete or asphalt, with some stretches of dirt road on a beaten and unpaved road, easy and accessible even for cyclists with little experience, in which case it is possible to avoid the dirt road. It requires a minimum ability to pedal but it is foreseen, for those who prefer it, the use of electric bikes.

I am a bike mechanic and an expert cycle traveler. In my travels, I prefer to discover mountain areas and away from the major communication routes.I was bike messenger in the streets of Rome for five years then I decided to return to Basilicata and rediscover the territory that surrounds it. In a short time I turned palm and palm to the woods and the heights of the Sirino massif and the Pollino Park. Traveling by bike or on foot the old railway line that connected Basilicata to Calabria is a very fun and safe way to rediscover and get to know these territories.

Frank is great host and he made us feel really comfortable even those who where not into bicycle. He gave us some tips to find restaurants in the area and is very kind.

ML
