What you'll do

This Experience is available for up to 10 guests on July 23rd and July 29th 2020. Booking will open on July 6th from 10AM PST on a first come first served basis.

Like many of you, I’ve been hunkered down with my family since March, avoiding social contact and juggling working, parenting and cooking duties. Figuring out how to feed multiple adults and a baby while working with a limited pantry during quarantine? Challenge accepted. In some ways, having less choice allows you to focus on keeping things simple while still getting creative in your own way.

We all agree: most of us hate doing dishes. I’ll walk you through how to make a delicious one-pot (donabe) meal with easily accessible ingredients.

First, we’ll introduce ourselves and see what everybody is working with in their own kitchens. I’ll tell you about some of the one-pot recipes I’ve made during self-quarantine and why having a few essential tools is all you really need for home cooking.

Next, I’ll walk you through my favorite recipe for chicken and rice donabe (clay pot). Learning to wash and cook rice without a rice cooker is a skill that everyone should know. We’ll walk through prep together, and, based on the ingredients you choose, we’ll discuss how to make it uniquely your own. If we make any mistakes along the way, don’t worry. We’ll figure it out together.

Such a cool experience! I've been a fan of David Chang and his restaurants for a while now and it was really special to be able to cook and speak with him in such a laid back setting.

Really fun experience and lived up to its name of being a pot of deliciousness! I was wondering how a cooking class with 10 people would go over zoom, but the actual cooking that we did together was quiet so that didn't present a problem. David was a great host, taking the time to make everyone feel welcome, check in with every participant along the way, answer all questions. Would recommend!

If you've ever watched any show that David has been a part of and thought to yourself, "I wonder what it's really like to hang out with him?", you already know. It was not only awesome to have the opportunity to interact with an amazing chef and personality in an intimate setting, but even more so to learn that he's just as gracious and genuine and unfiltered as you would hope and expect. People often say, "don't meet your heroes" because they often let you down - not so in this case. Chef David was attentive, engaged, took the time to get to know everyone and answer all questions. You could also tell he was excited to be hosting this experience as he started showing us how to make other things (like quick-pickled veggies and oyakodon). This was a lot of fun, and I hope that he's able to host more experiences like this one.
