What you'll do

This Experience is available for up to 12 guests on July 17th 2020. Booking will open on July 6th from 10AM PST on a first come first served basis.

Summer is here. Even if you’re stuck in the house, nothing says summer in the South quite like bourbon and BBQ.

We’ll open up the experience talking about BBQ and summer traditions. Then, I’ll give you a tour of the Maker’s Mark Distillery in Loretto, Kentucky. We’ll learn about the history of bourbon and how it’s become a uniquely Southern staple.

Then, we’ll head back to the grill and prep bourbon-infused BBQ recipes perfect for your next cookout (or cook-in).

This experience will be held live online.

Chef Ed Lee was a great host. It was awesome getting to cook (virtually) alongside him, drink some bourbon and share stories with a world-class chef. We ended up with a delicious meal and fun memory. Would absolutely do it again.

This whole experience fell apart due to technical problems. It was explained to the group this was not the host's fault. But we were all still left with a partially prepped meal and no idea what to do. I was looking forward to this as a gift for my father's birthday. It was a surprise, so he didn't have that much time to get his hopes up. Maybe we'll try again next year. AirBnB completely refunded all my fees. And provided additional compensation. That was very appropriate of them. I wold like to see better communication. No one in our guest group chat new what was happening. We did not receive any updates until an hour after the event was to begin. I will try another online experience in the future. But I'll go into it knowing there's a good chance it won't go off.

While there were some technical issues with the experience getting started (it was 1.5 hours late) and this was no fault of Chef Edward, there was also no communication for 1.5 hours about what was going on. Airbnb made everything right and then some, but there were people who had purchased this experience as gifts for family or significant others and I felt really bad for them as many weren't able to attend once the experience did get underway. The experience itself was great. We got to cook great food with a great chef who is really passionate. It was a lot of fun to share time with a group of like-minded people, make some delicious food, and then eat it together. Chef was engaged, we all got a chance to talk and share stories, and despite being spread out across the country and the late start, it felt like we were all sitting around a table sharing a meal. I can't imagine the issue we experienced is common or would repeat itself, so if you're a fan of good food, good bourbon and good company, I would definitely recommend this experience (if it's ever held again) or one like it!

I purchased this experience for my boyfriend for his birthday. He was super excited. Ran out and got all of the ingredients the night before. Prepped and set up everything to be on time for the experience (was set to begin at 1:30 PST) Long story short - the host had technical difficulties and couldn’t get into the zoom. My boyfriend stayed outside waiting by his grill for the duration of the experience while I kept checking the chat group for the experience. The whole group was waiting and we didn’t hear a thing. One attendee even started their own zoom meeting and most people joined that 45 minutes after the Airbnb experience “started.” We got a message in the chat group (at 2:50pm) that Edward had technical difficulties and he could start at 3pm. Most people had probably started cooking on their own I am guessing and my boyfriend had a work meeting at 3pm so couldn’t join at that new time with no planning. Since we spent a lot of money on the ingredients and time for prepping, he cooked it that night for dinner with no instructions. It was a guessing game. I TOTALLY understand the technical difficulties and I feel bad that the host was having issues, but I feel that the group should have learned this sooner so we could try to pivot somehow. If he couldn’t have let us know (because obviously he couldn’t since he was having issues, I am guessing) - there should be some type of back up plan from Airbnb on something like this. It would be great to have gotten the preparation instructions for the food as well. I reached out to the host for this, but never heard back. Really would have loved for my boyfriend to get this experience with Chef Lee. It sounded great and he was very excited about it. (Note: Airbnb refunded the payment for the experience and also gave me a credit towards a future stay. Thank you for that. Although, still sad that it didn’t work out. My low rating for this experience is not due to Chef Lee’s cooking and guidance obviously. It’s because of all of the technical difficulties that came with the experience. And, more so, it’s because of the lack of communication about said technical difficulties.)

I bought this for my husband as a special gift. He loves Chef Lee and we were really looking forward to it. The event was supposed to start at 430. The event never started. We logged on at 425 and started chatting with other participants, none of whom knew why Chef Lee was delayed. Eventually, over an hour later (with no word from Chef Lee or Airbnb, even after repeated attempts to contact), we all assumed the event was over and most of us began cooking with the food we had all prepared in advance. At around 545, we received a brief message saying there had been “technical difficulties” and they would start soon. I let Chef Lee know that most of us had already begun cooking and asked if we could reschedule. Others agreed. I never heard a response. Further, others who could attend the now two-hour delayed event said that the provided Zoom link for the new meeting wasn’t working and they couldn’t see/hear the host. I have still never heard back from Chef Lee. Airbnb, to its credit, refunded me and provided a credit. However, I frankly find it disrespectful and downright rude that Chef Lee himself never apologized or offered to reschedule - especially as the proceeds are purportedly for his charity, the Lee Initiative. It left a terrible taste in my mouth and made me lose respect for a chef I (and my husband) love and whose restaurants I have frequently patronized. Disappointing.
