What you'll do

This 3hr long walking tour involves 6 food stops and a little sightseeing that covers many iconic landmarks and hidden spots along with the history behind them.

You will try several kinds of unique food loved by locals in Osaka for decades. You’ll also have 2 types of desserts (one traditional & one contemporary “traditional”) from the most popular confectionaries favored by locals. I will explain the background of each food you’ll try and link it to Osaka or Japan more broadly.

Through this culinary experience, you will certainly come to understand the character of Osaka. And I also guarantee that you'll be full before leaving the tour as said in the proverb Kuidaore!

*Food Allergies & Restrictions
Osaka is known as the kingdom of carb-rich food. All the food provided on this tour contains wheat flour or fish based broth. For those on a gluten-free or vegan diet, this tour is not suitable.
Also, please be advised that this tour cannot accommodate anyone with severe food allergies that can cause illness or life threatening situations. This is because dietary issues are not very common in Japan, and many restaurants and food shops are not aware of cross contamination / contact and thus cross contamination CANNOT be avoided.

**Daytime version
You'll get a Wagyu beef skewer instead of Sushi.

I’m Chie, a food obsessed Japanese living in Osaka (originally from Kobe). I’m a technical translator, authorized tour conductor & food tour guide.

I love food so much that, when I was 14, I was already making my own list of favorite local restaurants, cake shops, etc. in Osaka, Kobe and Kyoto and I would take my friends there.

I’ve been doing food tours for almost 14 years - originally for expats and short term business visitors whom I met through work, with limited access to great local eateries without a local to show them. It was always great to see how they were able to connect with others through great food.

I look forward to meeting you and sharing the taste of Osaka / Kyoto including our culture, custom and history on my food tours!

Chie was really great! My fiancé and I had a lovely time interacting with her. Funny enough it is hard to meet and socialize with other Japanese people and she made us feel very welcome. We learned a lot about Japanese culture as well as the Osaka cuisine. She helped us even find a special soy sauce that would of otherwise been impossible for us visitors to find. Thank you so much Chie we will always remember this interaction. :)

It ended up being a private tour with just me, my husband, and Chie which was great because it felt super personal. We went to a sushi place and an okonomiyaki place, amongst others, but those two felt extra special because they were places I feel like I wouldn’t be brave enough to go to on my own. This was the only tour I did on my Japan trip and I’m glad I made a side trip to Osaka for it! Thanks Chie! (:

Chie was wonderful! Her tour set the tone for our entire magical trip to Japan. She was easy to find thanks to her great directions and it immediately felt like meeting up with an old friend. We felt welcomed and she took her time explaining things to us that we would not have noticed or understood on our own. We had a wonderful afternoon strolling around Osaka sampling delicious local food and learning all about this wonderful city. She was also kind enough to give us suggestions for what to see and do in Osaka and elsewhere because of attraction closures. I will be recommending Chie to everyone I know who plans to visit Osaka, even if they've been before. 1 million stars for Chie and her awesomeness!

Chie was an excellent tour guide for the Dotonbori area of Namba! She gave a lot of great details about the area and its history, in addition to introducing the great local food. Recommend this tour 100%.

I took part in a good amout of food tours in many places, and this goes straight to the top position. Chie is a great host, and you can tell she has put a lot of efforts in making the experience the best possible. We had the chance to visit some of the best joints in town, places I would not be able to find by myself, despite the means technology gives us. Being a food lover I had previous knowledge of Osaka food, but I still learnt a lot from this tour. 100% recommended!

This is the absolute BEST way to see and eat your way through Osaka! Chie took us around to spots we would have never been able to find or go to on our own and that made the experience so unique and memorable for us. She was so knowledgable and fun it felt like walking around Osaka with a friend! If you want a full belly at the end of your tour and a head full of history than this is the tour for you. Loved every single minute :)
